It does not matter if use Ethernet cable straight to the router or Wifi, I get the same speed across every device I test. I have used CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6e & CAT8 cables with same effect. My Modem is a Netgear CM1000 3.1 DOCSIS (10Gbps) and Router is a Protectli 4-Port 8GB RAM (1Gbps) with a TPLINK AX5400 (1Gbps) for WiFi access point. All my devices are capable of delivering Gigabit speeds.

Technically the cm1000 isn’t capable of 1.2gbps, because it doesn’t have a 2.5gb port. You should still be seeing the full 950ish. Have you checked your modem signal levels?
