So long as you don't need more advanced bells and whistles like HDR and FreeSync, the Dark Matter 42771 might be one of the best entry-level high refresh rate monitors out there right now. And that is the Dark Matter 42771, a really nice panel even if it is a little bit darker and just a great high refresh rate 1080p monitor for 1080p sources and PC gaming. Big thank you again to Monoprice for letting me check this one out, was a really awesome and fun experience and I'm going to be sad to see this one go

 We have only just scratched the surface of what the Dark Matter brand brings to the table however and today I am bringing you all my thoughts on the Dark Matter 42771 gaming monitor. Monoprice offers a number of high refresh rate displays of varying resolution and sizes and this particular model uses a 27 inch panel with a resolution of 1080p and a 165 hz refresh rate. While it doesn't push for the highest resolutions found in today's gaming world, the higher frame rate ensures you a competitive advantage and the 42771 also makes for a great companion monitor to the Xbox Series S. My review sample of the 42771 came in a plain black box with the Dark Matter logo and model number presented upon it

Dark Matter 42771 27" 1080P Gaming Monitor Review: Great For 120FPS Xbox Series S Titles!

 What makes the 42770 stand out is color and contrast. It has a wide color gamut over 91% coverage of DCI-P3, which is top of the class. And that color is accurate, with no need for calibration. The 42770 boasts reference level grayscale, gamma, and gamut accuracy

31D average error, you won't see a problem in practice. If you need this gamut for color-critical work, or you prefer to tone down the extra saturation for SDR material, it delivers a high level of accuracy. Without calibration, the 42770 would finish fourth in the group. With the adjustment, it comes out on top

 It also pushes the contrast envelope. With decent IPS panels topping 1001, the 42770 is around 1301, putting it among the best IPS panels we've tested. To be fair, there aren't many more features to talk about. You don't get USB ports or speakers or HDR

 In the past, it was generally slower than TN, but that is no longer true, with some of the latest screens running at 360Hz. In the budget category though, 144Hz is the most common refresh rate and should be considered a starting point for gaming performance. That being said, it's plenty fast enough to provide an excellent gaming experience. The 42770 is a good value
