W530 is a good bet. But if you’re counting a gen or two newer W540 or W541 are pretty solid choices.

Lenovo ThinkPad if you’re on a budget. They’re extremely durable. Worth buying used. I’d try to get one with 16gb of ram and an SSD.

The laptop is great. Very powerful machine. I do a lot of heavy programming and I'm on the road a lot. This laptop give me the power and the mobility I need to get my work done. Just one thing that almost caused me to not buy this one, the descriptions on this product says its got a Apple a4 process...

My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

Its my Company provided laptop and no member in my team is happy with this device. Its all looks good on paper but number of problem with device. It keep taking trips to our IT department 3-4 time a year.

Lenovo Thinkpad, you can't go wrong. I'm partial to the T series which I've been using for a long time. This is a general recommendation, if you start talking GPUs than you need to consider form factor for cooling etc...

T5xx, T4xx or W541 (my fav, cuz most upgradeable then other, 3k ips, 32 gb ram, full linux support, egpu via tb2 (discrete nvidia is trash), perfect keyb and 3! Slots for hdd/ssd, upgradeable cpu up to i7 49xx MX but is toooo hot. I7-4712mq or 4702mq is the best choice). 9 cell battery - up to 3-5 hrs life.

I own two W541's and they're amazing for the price. I haven't found anything comparable for the price/performance ratio - the thing that really sets the W540/541 apart from these other recommendations is the 3K screen option!
