Hey! I need to get a new laptop for my travels, I'll need a webcam and microphone for meetings, I won't be loading  huge spreadsheets and I'll only be using Photoshop as a hobby to create art. If there's any laptops that double up as a good graphics tablet that would be a bonus. Hoping to spend less that £1k if that's possible. As it's for travel it will need to be lightweight and have a screen size of 13inches approx :)

I have done some research but its hard to not be tempted by the more expensive ones, however, will an older model really not suffice for my needs? Would be great to hear people's thoughts/experience?

Laptop recommendations please

Lenovo Thinkpad. The only issue would be the battery life, but you could get multiple batteries since they're not internal.

I am looking for a new (or refurbished) laptop to do office tasks and write code.  The most intensive thing I intend to do is run a Windows 10 VM for the few programs that don't run on Linux.

Preferences: 

The most important thing to me is compatibility with Linux.  It seems like a lot of laptops nowadays have issues with running Linux (particularly with suspending and such), so the most important thing to me is that the hardware will be able to work with Linux out of the box/with minor bios tweaks.

* Battery life
   * Longer is better, as I am a student and will be carrying the machine around daily
* Size: &lt;= 14 inches is preferable
   * Size is not a major factor, as long as I can fit it in a backpack
* Weight
   * I am not picky about weight.

The Enter key is SO soft and mushy and I've noticed many of the keys, like the pair of Space bars, are also soft and don't register contact multiple times. VERY frustrating as I can type around 50 wpm and I'm having to Backspace WAY too much! GRR!. I want to send this POS back and try another brand, but I've found no other alternatives in my searches.

 It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students. Having 2 classes in row will mean you're looking to sit near a plug in class to keep it charged. You can dim the screen down but that's not always possible when you're in a bright classroom

 My old model, with a card slot, I routinely swapped out cards depending on my usage. I was hoping the battery life was some improved. It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students

Good but with some disappointments.

We did not open the shrink wrap as there was no indication of a keyboard. Be aware of false depictions of keyboard included even in the video. Otherwise, the product should be ok if you want a tablet, not a PC.
