My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

Thinkpad T, X, W, and P series laptops are built to higher standards than consumer-grade devices (especially cheap ones like many Chromebooks), and it's not uncommon to see even refurbished or used units last years after purchase. Dell and HP offer similar machines, but I'm not familiar with them. Try for a Thinkpad T430 or newer (last two numbers increase = newer).

Nmmm...lenovo T430... one if the best damn laptops ever made right there. One of the last laptops with a socketed processor. Any G2 processor can be dropped into that bad boy for upgrading.
