What's really nice about the Garmin Inreaches is that they have three presets that are included with your messaging.

For Cali and I and how we're using the Mini, the ruggedness that's built into it works great.

A big confidence boost for me in my transition to “solo thru hiker” was the Garmin InReach. If you can afford it I highly recommend getting one.

Less than a week later, I was on a hike in an area with no cell service with my (large and aging) dog and he hurt his leg at the bottom of a very steep descent. Tried a few things to get him up (including using a dog sling that another hiker happened to have), but there was no way he was going to be able to hike back. Used the SOS on the Garmin and a ranger was there within the hour to help me get my guy off the trail. 110% worth it.

As a sole woman camper and backpacker i feel much better with my Garmin Inreach Mini which allows me satellite communications (send and receive). It’s never not worked. Gets a signal everywhere.

For the Garmin I just got the basic $12 month plan. I also have an Inmarsat satellite phone, but seldom get a minutes card after Inmarsat doubled the cost of their basic plan, pretty dirty after luring folks to buy an expensive Sat Phone. The Inreach is the best overall for me.
