You can trigger one from the earth may tap or you can just pop this cover open and you hold the button down and you get that little alert. It gives you 20 seconds to cancel

 Here you have the home screen, you have messages you have, check for messages you have tracking, you have your position, you have your position, while you're moving, you have your Bluetooth connection and you have your weather now on the home screen. If you hit the ok button, you can get the most of the common functions pretty quickly like a preset or tracking. They're all right here which comes in handy. And to get back you just hit the back button

 So cool feature to have if you are going to use your phone. Now after you send, you get this little spinning indicator telling you that it is broadcasting and then that little crosshairs when it is done. When someone receives your message, it looks like a regular text message and you just click on that link there and you can see it. Loads the topo map and somebody can just go on there and zoom in and see exactly where you are

 here's one that's 0.2 miles away. Navigate and now let's just tell me to go in this direction. Here you can see I've got a little compass and if I turn around telling me I'm doing the wrong thing and that's how it works

  The Tech then decided to check the Test Message function and sent one to my unit. I had the unit outside in the yard for about 8 minutes while still on the phone and walked to the street in front of my house and held the unit over my head to see if satellite connectivity would improve. At about 10 minutes, the test message was received and the Tech's response was:  "Hmmm, interesting." I then sent a few other Preset messages from the unit, then downloaded and set up the Earthmate app for my iPhone XR

  That night from our first camp at 7811 ft elev with a 360 degree clear view of the sky, I sent another Preset and it took about 25 mins to complete.  My companion sent multiple Presets from his InReach mini, while we were standing side-by-side, and his completed times ranged from 10-20 seconds.  I subsequently sent 3 more Preset messages from elevations of 6400 up to about 7800 where the sky was unobstructed by trees or mountains. I continued to test sending Preset messages to determine how long it takes the unit to acquire the satellite and found the range from 45 seconds up to 30 minutes under unobstructed skys

  While writing this review, I tested sending a Preset from my backyard and it took about 20 minutes to complete and the battery charge went from 100% down to 96%.

 The majority of the 'time required to send' were in the 20-30 minute range.  I found that the battery dropped about 5% after I sent 7 Preset messages during this trip where I turned the device on to send and then turned it off after the message transmission was complete.  While writing this review, I tested sending a Preset from my backyard and it took about 20 minutes to complete and the battery charge went from 100% down to 96%.

 Used the SOS on the Garmin and a ranger was there within the hour to help me get my guy off the trail. 110% worth it.

 It also only weighs 100 grams, so it's a very lightweight device. Some of the improvements that Garmin made were to battery life as well as how it charges. So the Garmin Inrh Mini 2 uses Usbc charging, which is awesome. I love Usb-c cables because you can put them in either direction and it's going to go in no problem

 If you don't have clear view of the skies and you get 10 days of battery life, so you'll get that sort of reduced battery life if you're in a tree, forested area, or in canyons like I am right now. For real world usage, I get about seven to eight days of battery life with the Inreach Mini 2. So that's with it being connected to my phone, sending messages now and then, checking weather, as well as not having the perfect conditions for being able to connect to satellites. Unity 282 uses the Iridium Satellite network for all of its communication, so that's how you're going to connect in order to send an Sos message in order to get support, as well as for sending messages through the two-way communication system that it has

 if you're looking to navigate and I've loaded routes on here and follow them and it's not as convenient as having contour lines as well as other trails on the map, it's still really easy to use and a good backup navigation tool.  The Inreach Mini 2 uses a 950 milliamp hour battery and Garmin advertises that. That will get you 60 days of battery life performance if you have it in 30 minute tracking and have clear view of the skies. If you don't have clear view of the skies and you get 10 days of battery life, so you'll get that sort of reduced battery life if you're in a tree, forested area, or in canyons like I am right now. For real world usage, I get about seven to eight days of battery life with the Inreach Mini 2

I use this for offshore sailing, but that is beside the point for my main concern for this product, which is Earthmate and the Iridium cost for its value.  The on-device user interface is clearly insufficient for sending messages, or even reading received ones. The Earthmate app is meant to be the primary way to use the inReach Mini. And that would be fine, except that about 50% of the messages the inReach device received never arrived at the phone through Earthmate

It works and I think they have no problem moving it over to the new maps but Garmin wants you to pay more for the upgraded maps. I was on a 15th floor of a apartment and NOTHING close by and it was still not reading well. So I don't know make sure you can get good signal or maybe strap it to a drone and fly it up :D :D :D.  So that's a big difference for me I don't really want people to know where I'm at all the time unless I want them to know so the live tracking doesn't really mean anything to me. Big difference right up front is price of the unit Garmin retails 350 you can pick them up on sale occasionally for less. Zolio is 200 bucks so up front you save 150 dollars. Both of these devices have three tiers of pricing options they have like the basic the middle and then the pro or whatever

If you just go full unlimited plan which if you're in the backcountry a lot a lot of people just go you know full unlimited both of these are the same price 50 a month unlimited messages unlimited weather checks you can get weather on these to your phone. The one thing where I like the Zolio kind of comes out ahead for me is that mid-tier pricing plan for 35 dollars a month you get 250 messages and then if you go over your 250 I think it's only 25 cents a message so the mid-tier is less on the in-reach 25 dollars a month but you only get 40 messages and if you go over 50 cents it's 50 cents a message for every time you go over so it's kind of this weighing your options of what you're going to use these for
