As far as battery life, I was able to keep it going for 6 days if I just used it to send 3 to 5 messages letting my wife know I was starting, I was OK and checking in, and I was stopping for the night. Everytime you turn it on, it takes several minutes to acquire satellites and can take up to 30 minutes to send a message. When I use it to send messages and do occasional tracking and location reporting, it lasts maybe two 8 hour days.

If you don't have clear view of the skies and you get 10 days of battery life, so you'll get that sort of reduced battery life if you're in a tree, fo...

But Garmin misses the mark when it comes to ease of use, data management, software (online & phone apps), etc. It would be "perfect" if just a little more thought and effort were invested in the design of some of its most basic features.

But, hey, Garmin, get the user interface to give you better feedback about the status of messages being sent!!!

Consumers who don't take the time to read and understand what they are buying should not complain later when reality sets in. The InReach isn't a self-contained walkie-talkie. It's more like a phone that uses a sophisticated service to send your messages across the World. If you return a phone you don't expect a refund for the service used

I use this for offshore sailing, but that is beside the point for my main concern for this product, which is Earthmate and the Iridium cost for its value. The on-device user interface is clearly insufficient for sending messages, or even reading received ones. The Earthmate app is meant to be the primary way to use the inReach Mini. And that would be fine, except that about 50% of the messages the inReach device received never arrived at the phone through Earthmate
