What to expect from 24lbs Aluminum Road bike to 17lb Carbon Aero Bike
The weight reduction will translate, to a certain extent at least, to a higher FTP *when climbing,* as if you yourself suddenly lost 7 pounds. Aside from that, I'd assume your old bike has Endurance geometry, and the new one has Race geometry? Speaking as someone who rode a Trek Pilot 2.1 frameset for 10 years, including training and racing on it, then got a Cervelo P2 and, most recently, a Cervelo S5, you'll probably find that in some respects you'll have to learn to ride differently because the bike will outperform your old one on curves and when cornering, which on a highly technical course will *effectively* make you faster, not having to slow down as much for curves and corners. It's been about a year and a half since I got done building the S5 and I'm still learning to trust it's handling, still surprised how much faster I can take corners and curves.
