Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5

I have already bought 4x RTX 3060 laptops in the last 2-3 months, and given Alienware is at least 50% more money in Australia for the same specs, it's kind of hard for me to justify when I can cover other models for less. I also get the impression reviews aren't that high on the priority list. Prior to the m15 R5, I get offered their laptops to review just as a new version is launching, so I'd always be behind.

Battery life is solid, not quite up to the 9 to 10 hours of modern competing gaming laptops on our streaming video playback test, but at between 8 and 9 hours it's still far better than most people expect from gaming laptops..I generally like the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5, and by extension, the Intel-based R6, for 1080p gameplay in a sleeker-than-usual body

M15 R5-Huge power adapter and lack of thunderbolt+PCIE Gen4 (The R6 still comes with a gen 3 drive when selecting the 512 option). Problems I faced when using it. I did not face any major problems such as BSODs or crashing while using the laptop. But I did face an issue when updating the laptop.

The entry-level model of the new m15 R5 is already a very good gaming laptop. The 125W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 offers sufficient performance for the fast FHD panel with 165 Hz and the new AMD processor convinces in every regard.

Alienware is launching its first Ryzen based laptops tomorrow with the M15 R5. You are correct, everyone saying that Ryzen runs so much cooler are way off base. They run cooler at lower loads, that is a fact but they will run just as hot as Intel based components when you push them. That being said, their IPC improvements could make them more efficient at those temps, so an Intel CPU puts out 400 frames at 95c and the AMD puts out 410 frames at 95c - just for an example.

I have no complaints whatsoever regarding the m15 r5. It's a spectacular machine and definitely worth it if you are and AMD fan. If you prefer Intel, go with the m15 r6 and you get to experience the other side, but whichever one you choose, you won't regret it.

The M15 R5 isn’t the jaw-dropping value that it needed to be (and that I’d hoped it would be) to steer everyone away from the 2021 gaming laptop frontrunner (so far), the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15.

Dell initially disabled 10% of the cuda cores and released a patch after everyone freaked out. Even after the bios update, the GPU isn’t performing where it needs to be. Some have pointed out that Dell is Intels biggest customer and purposely made the ryzen edition less appealing but that’s all hearsay. Regardless, the r5 is not a good investment as there are other laptops that are far superior with the same specs for the price- including Alienware own Intel line.

I love the laptop but it is falsely advertised. This is advertised as a 12 core processor and what I recieved is an 8 core. Overall solid build but does run hot when under load. You can cool it down by allowing all updates and running a bios update. I will keep it but advise the company to fix their...
