The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor canister vacuum is one of our best performers across the board in every test metric. The Dyson particularly impressed us with its superb performance against pet hair. It picked up a stunning 98.20% of the pet hair from medium pile carpeting and sucked up the vast majority of flour on both carpet and hard flooring. We also enjoyed the additional features, such as control over the brush roller speed. Overall, we recommend this model if you are looking to clean multiple types of flooring and want something that will easily maneuver around obstacles. 
Be prepared to lay out some serious cash for this vacuum if you want the best overall performance. This is our chief complaint, following the fact that the head of the Dyson is rather close to the floor. Although this can be good for picking up smaller debris, it makes things difficult when picking up larger debris like Cheerios.

Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2, Big Performance in a Compact Package

 If you're looking for an upright vacuum at a budget-friendly price, consider the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged. Unusually for a vacuum at this price point, this vacuum uses dirtbags that are advertised to offer HEPA-level filtration, so you shouldn't need to worry too much about fine particles being spread around as you clean. The vacuum's simple design also makes swapping in a new dirtbag quite easy, and you can remove its brushroll from its floorhead in order to clear away any tangled hair. 

This vacuum does an excellent job of cleaning debris on bare floors, like hardwood or vinyl. It also delivers good overall performance in low and high-pile carpet, though you might need to make an extra pass or two to deal with material that's been deeply embedded in carpet fibers. You can also clean hard-to-reach areas by cleaning with its hose and range of attachments, which include a miniature turbo brush and a soft-bristle dusting brush.

Unfortunately, since you'll need to replace its dirtbag periodically, recurring costs can add up, especially compared to larger canister vacuums like the NaceCare HVR 200 Henry, which uses larger dirtbags. Its bulky design and lack of a rotating floorhead also make it a challenge to maneuver in cluttered areas, but thankfully there's an off switch for its brushroll. Overall, if you're a value-conscious buyer looking for a basic bagged upright, this is a great choice, and one of the best bagged vacuums we've tested.

If you're looking for an upright that's a little easier to push on uneven surfaces, consider the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged. Unlike the Kenmore Intuition Bagged, it uses a traditional upright design, so you can't pick up and carry its canister body independently of its upright portion. However, its floorhead does have a five-level height adjustment function, making it easier to push over and onto very dense carpets. This vacuum does an excellent job of clearing various kinds of debris on bare floors and has good performance on low and high-pile carpet, though the Kenmore has an easier time dealing with larger debris on these surfaces. You can clean tight places with its hose, and it comes with a turbo brush, crevice tool, dusting brush, and extension wand attachments. Unfortunately, it has a smaller dirtbag than the Kenmore, so you'll likely need to replace it more often.

Get the Kenmore if you want a vacuum that delivers slightly better overall performance and has a more portable alternative configuration, but consider the Hoover if you want something easier to push around on most floor types.

Consider the Hoover WindTunnel Tempo Bagged if you want a budget-friendly vacuum to clean shag carpeting. Its debris pickup performance on thick carpeting does lag behind the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus. In addition, its bagged design results in higher recurring costs since you'll need to swap in a new dirtbag now and then, though they do have an impressively substantial debris capacity. However, it's also noticeably cheaper, not to mention much easier to maintain. It also still offers a few features that are handy for cleaning shag carpeting that aren't always guaranteed for models in this price point, with a floorhead that offers five levels of surface adjustment and a brushroll cutoff switch.

Unfortunately, and despite its mainly plastic construction, this is still a bulky, heavy vacuum, which makes it a bit of a nuisance to store when not in use or to pick up and carry around. Its lack of a pivoting floorhead makes it challenging to maneuver in cluttered environments.
