 Hey Sean, it's been a year. So let's talk about the zoom f6 field recorder With any one year later review that I do It's always a product that I've used for at least a year and at least 12 different shoots and I've used the zoom f6 For more than two years and well over probably 50 or 60 different productions, and I love this thing so I'm gonna walk through my four big pros for it and My two cons maybe three cons and whether or not I think you should buy it spoiler alert. I think you should buy it So I'm a video producer based in st. Louis, Missouri, and I do a lot of documentary style interview driven videos for my clients And so it's a lot of seated interviews where I have a boom mic overhead and needs to be recorded I'm using mirrorless cameras, and I don't want to record directly into camera

 But also this powers off of USB C And so you don't need like a custom cable or a barrel connector and a big wall wart any USB C connector will put power into this thing and that's handy, but that brings me to my Fourth Pro and this is the biggest one for me. This thing has a built-in battery sled for Sony L series batteries No Other recorder that I know of has that I know the sound device mix pre's have like an Accessory sled you can buy that attaches to the back of it and the batteries like stick off to me that's Having it built in and and being cheaper than those devices is So handy because if you're anything like me You've got a hundred of these Sony L series batteries to run your monitors to run even some of your lights and some of your cameras Throwing one of these on this thing will power it for hours Even even these medium-sized ones and the small ones will go for a couple hours, too It's so nice to know that I can throw a battery on here and with with the built-in battery and 32 float I can have reliable great audio for hours and that is that is such peace of mind for me And I'm a big fan of it. So that brings me to my cons First the build quality is good. I'm just gonna pop one of these things off I'm really afraid I'm gonna do it now during this review and I don't want to do that But the the build quality again, it hasn't broken It just feels these knobs feel like I'm going to break them one of these times I haven't but it feels like I might and the other con is that the the buttons these four buttons you have Play stop forward and backward I think but this these four buttons are how you navigate the menu And so if you're trying to like add in your scene names and stuff like that instead of a dial where you can scroll quickly Through the alphabet

 H4 h6 Tascam d70 sound devices mix pre 3

 Did I say h6 and now the f6 has been my go-to Anna zoom h1 used a lot of audio recorders. I

 Love this thing because the the first big pro this records in 32-bit floating-point audio and if you're unfamiliar

 I'm not going to go into the details here

 but suffice it to say it makes it so you don't have to set levels anymore and you can you can correct anything with the

 Levels later it will not correct for poorly placed microphones or abundant background noise or bad connections between things

 You still want to monitor and make sure you're recording properly

 But if you're in the middle of an interview, especially with a smaller crew where you can't even afford necessarily having a location sound mixer

 Being able to know that as your interviewee starts to warm up a little bit

 Maybe they start to get a little louder or they laugh and then they get quiet and intense

 Knowing that so long as your mic is well placed

 You'll be able to switch the levels later to turn it up if they talk a little quiet and to bring it down if they

 Get a little loud. That's been fantastic. And also with podcasting that is fantastic because that way you're not worried about feathering your levels

 You can just let someone talk and fix it all later if you need to so 32 float big fan

 Big Pro number two is how compact this is

 I love this form factor and the fact that it fits in my camera bag and takes up less than the size of a camera body

 And it's not that heavy while still being well built

 That's huge for me and and a lot of times when I get to set I'm putting this on a magic arm and attaching it

 To a c-stand with a microphone on it where I can see the levels bouncing or run headphones from it

 But it's not I'm not mounting this not on top of my camera

 I'm not putting this in a bag or anything like that though

 The small size is fantastic that it needs just a little magic arm and it's it's fine

 Third this is getting common in in audio recorders

 But the USB interface is fantastic and I use this I'll use this to run a sure sm7b

 I'll use it to run a good microphone into my computer for zoom calls and video conferencing and the fact that this makes that very

 Easy is wonderful. But also this powers off of USB C
