Hey guys today I've got a bit of a gear
review for you we're going to be taking

a look at my mattress which is the
Thermarest Z lite sol. So why did I buy

this mattress I bought this when I was
about to hike at The Overland Track

while there was still a lot of snow
about. So I was looking at little ways

that I could keep myself a little bit
warmer, so for example I updated my

sleeping bag and I updated my sleeping
mat. So my previous sleeping mat is this.

This is just a cheap thing that I bought

because it's got some dimples. So

if you look at a mattress like this and
you think to yourself that you can

happily and successfully sleep on it
they're getting something like the Z lite

will be an absolute upgrade you will
find it incredibly comfortable

you might as well stop watching this video
and go buy it. On the other hand if you

look at this mattress and you think
please no, then maybe the Z lite sol

won't be the best option for you, maybe
you'll prefer an inflatable mattress. So

let's talk about some of the specs. The
Z lite sol comes in regular and small,

this one is the regular. The small is
actually quite small it's about 130

centimeters. So it's dimensions when it
is folded out its length is 183

centimeters its width is 51 centimeters
its height or it's thickness is about

two centimeters. It weighs 410 grams and
it has an r-value of 2.6. If you don't

know what an r-value is basically it's a
measurement of how well you'll be

insulated against the ground, so the
higher the number the more effective it

will be, so when you're looking on a
mattress to buy usually they will list

an r-value. Its packable, folded
dimensions has a length of 13

centimetres width of 51 centimeters and
a height of 14 centimeters. Obviously

that might change depending if you
consider packed to be like this or maybe

you might strap it to your pack that way
your options are endless.

It is made of what they call
molded closed cell foam and you can

obviously see all the little ripples
that go throughout it that's meant to

help trap your heat, and obviously you
can see that it has a silver side and a

yellow side. I think they might call this
lime, and you sleep on the silver side. So

what do I love most about this mattress
there are two main reasons of why I will

keep coming back to this mattress time
and time again the first one is the way

that it folds. So you can obviously see
that folds in like a zig zag accordion

style, for me that means I can get to
camp throw my mattress out and it's

done I don't have to worry about it
curling back up against itself, I don't

have to worry about waiting for it to
self inflate or inflating it myself, it's

literally just throw it out done. The
second main reason why I love this

mattress is that it is not an inflatable
mattress, so I don't have to worry about

getting holes in it I don't have to
worry about whether or not I've got a

repair kit. In terms of negatives I
personally don't think that is any some

people might say that it's quite bulky
when I look at this it's actually pretty

much the same size as my two-man tent
but that doesn't bother me too much as

it happily straps to the outside of my
pack. I do know that some people cut off

sections so they might use a cut off
section as a seat or they might just

discard it to save weight. I don't
really have a heart chop mine up just yet.

Maybe that's something I'll do in
the future. I guess one thing I do notice

is that dirt gets trapped in the holes
quite easily, but while you're hiking who

really thinks about dirt, you can just
hose it down when you get home. One thing

that I would have liked for it to come
with with these elastic straps. These

ones came with my old mattress
but just keep it intact together but no
