Rolex Datejust vs Seiko SARB035

When 3 luxury watches sit on the shelf but you find yourself reaching for the SARB035, you know there's something special. Hi my name is Brian, and I am a watch nerd. This watch has, nearly exclusively, occupied my wrist space for the past two months and with good reason - it's a phenomenal daily watch! First thing's first - it is a down to earth, fly under the radar timepiece. This is NOT for the person who is looking to sell used cars or snake oil

The Datejust is such a versatile piece, as it’s lowkey enough not to be mixed with the Submariner gang, but it’s robust enough to play in the same league. Its timelessness is what keeps me from acquiring new watches, the design just works! You can work in the garden, wash the dishes or dress it up with a suit, it’s always right. Although I love the blue dials on Rolexes, I must say the white dial is just more versatile when it comes to day to day use.

I usually can easily go a day without wearing it, and of course since it has manual wind you can always just keep it going.

10 years ago if you would have told me if I would be in love with a two tone Rolex Datejust I would have laughed!. Fast forward to 2021 and here we are with this beauty strapped to my wrist. I had been considering picking up a piece with some gold in it and was drawn to the classic Datejust with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I stopped by my dealer to inquire and they happened to have this configuration with the newly released fluted motif dial and boy is it a looker!

The rear casing looks very thick and strong as well, once again, compared to the lower end models. And finally, the crown. The crown is large, like on most quality high end watches. It does not screw out, but it does have a winding function and hacking for the seconds hand

I had not seen this particular model at other stores and ended up pulling the trigger to buy it. I loved the sharp contrast in the dial and indexes; really was the selling point for me.

To close, I'm extermely happy with this watch. It has all of the features I would ever desire in a wrist watch and I'm very pleased with the appearance too. I'm sure this won't be my last wrist watch but it will certainly be the yardstick I will measure all future watches against.
