 So as you can see maybe you don't you see the case read quite responsive. This is still the same like Pha-4 but it's be a check for standard same key like the Mp3 and it appears to me that the key action same thing and the responsiveness of the case that seems very similar. Roland FP-10 testing, Honest review.

 Ive had a Motif 8, Triton Pro X 88, and most recently the Yamaha KX-8 (got it used for like 300 like 10 years ago). I was going to splurge and get an expensive keyboard, for the "feel". I was eying the RD-2000, Korg Grandstage, Roland FP-90X, Nord Piano 4 etc. I thought I was going to have to pay at minimum around 2000 to get into the nice keybed space (PHA-50, RH3 etc)

This is my dream come true (a top-line keybed for lowest price possible). The oboard sounds are pretty ass, but I dont use on-board sounds, dont sequence on the keyboard, dont need a built in audio/midi-usb device, dont need "bluetooth" connections, dont need onboard speakers, etc. Just give me the nice 88-key keybed with a midi out, and I am golden. I cant believe this is real

 I'm never going to play chamber music, it's more to learn + practice in my room during quarantine. If I ever were to play for anybody it would be a recording. There is barely any price difference between the two options locally (FP-10 = 760, P125 = 850) so that isn't a worry. Listening to the FP-**30** vs the P125 I preferred the sound of the FP-**30** (it's like 1

I think this is pretty terrific at the price. I don't find the hammer action entirely persuasive but it's a decent enough facsimile for piano study and feels alright besides. You wouldn't feel out of place playing a grand piano if your hand muscles were trained on this keyboard.  The sounds are not terrific but they are better than adequate at the price point

 Roland has to justify higher price points somehow after all. Again, though, at the price this is a terrific digital piano.

As a beginner that currently plays on a high end digital piano, I will say that I prefer the sound of my Kawai CA99 over that of the mediocre acoustics that I've played on.  

  You can get lucky with sites like Facebook market or Craigslist, but a lot of time what's available is junk.  That piano that 'just needs a tuning'?  It may very well have been sitting in a garage experiencing wide swings in humidity for the last decade, and it's probably not worth repairing.  At least when buying used from a dealer, you can be a lot more confident in what you're getting, though you're probably not going to find anything ridiculously underpriced, either.  You can potentially get a pretty decent used upright

Soon I am going to be having a lot of free time on my hands, so I want to pursue a lifelong dream I always had but never followed, to learn how to play the piano.

I will probably get at least a few lessons from the local music store, but I know the value of practicing at home in my own time, so I need to get an instrument as I currently don’t have one and never have. 

Emotionally, I would like to have a traditional piano for sound and esthetic reasons, but would really appreciate advice. I only want to do this once if possible. 

All in budget including purchase, delivery, repairs, and tuning is $2,500. I’ve looked on Craigslist and could easily get any number of uprights for free and put most of the money into professional repairs and tuning. If I spend some time looking I could get a baby grand for $1-2k but that would leave me less for repairs and tuning, but may be willing to stretch the budget if I knew a good starting place like recommended brands and maximum age. With no knowledge at all about this, if I’m determined to get a piano should I instead look to buy from a reconditioner like worldclasspianos.com?

But all that said, it sounds like I could be way under budget if I got over my emotional desire for an acoustic piano and just got a mid range keyboard. Would love your thoughts, and thanks in advance.

Just starting out in my 40s, where to begin

Kawai wooden key actions have a good reputation. The Kawai CA49, CA59, CA79 and CA99 pianos and VPC-1 MIDI controller are worth a close look.

This pianist records with a computer and a VPC-1. Notice the grand piano sitting beside him. I'm guessing that mic'ing an acoustic piano is difficult -- so he records with a computer. I'll also guess he chose the VPC-1 for its touch

Do you have recommendations? For example, seems that NWX mechanism by Yamaha is quite good for that purpose? Are some Casio mechanisms better? Or maybe a different firm?
