 Manufactured between 1961 and 1981, the Rickenbacker 4001 was created as the deluxe version of Rickenbacker's 4000 bass.  It's really nice and lightweight. The original machines have been replaced by shallower, higher gear ratio sealed gear machines. All good here. It's definitely a player

 Crushed pearl. Crushed pearl inlays that go all the way across the fingerboard and, of course, this really bitchin' checkerboard binding. I love the checkerboard binding. So cool

 Why do certain guitars sound really good when they're strung through the body? Because it allows the whole body to get into the vibration and tone generating of that instrument. So what you have here on the BB, they come through on a 45-degree angle on the back. We did make the bridge capable of top loading. So if you're a top loader person, we can do that as well

 The other thing that we did is, thanks to our friend Billy Sheehan, is we took this design right off of his bass. So the Billy Sheehan Attitude bass has a six-bolt neck for stability for him, because he likes to throw his bass around. But we found out that the benefit for the customer is that it pulls the neck tighter into the body. So tighter into that pocket, so you actually get a better transference of tone that way

 So if you want to put your own pickups in, we won't be offended as long as you buy the bass. So what we have here is we've got the beautiful alder body, rosewood fretboard, the beautiful five-ply mahogany and maple neck. Very, very stable, very, very true. You shouldn't have to do too many truss rod adjustments on this thing to get it to play right

Yamaha BB435 5-String Bass | Everything You Need To Know

 These differ from Fenders in that the body is Alder/Maple/Alder and traditionally that's what gives them the power the BB series has always been known for. I think the pickups are great and are voiced exceptionally well for vintage type bass tones, but they are standard size and shape in case you want to drop in something else. I would recommend this over any comparably priced bass, and to anyone who wants a passive, vintage-style bass that does the classic P-Bass thing exceedingly well but offers more than any other manufacturer can offer at the price. This is a lifetime type instrument for me, I believe

 It's level with any top of the line production Fender easily. You won't find any poorly cut nuts, tooling marks, or finish issues from the factory on these.  The best features of the BBP34 over competitors like high end Fenders is, IMO, the overall higher level of build quality, and the really full low and midrange tone. It sits really really well in a band mix

 You get an alder body with a maple neck and a rosewood fretboard; already uncommon these days when you have manufacturers charging you much more for basses made with poplar bodies. Folks, poplar is not a tone wood and it is only fit for making bookshelves in your kid’s bedroom. However, what really impresses me about this bass is the build quality, the playability and the tone; it’s a great bass by any measure. I was originally planning on replacing the pickups but it was not necessary, the stock pickups sound great

The only mod I made to my bass was to replace the old school Fender style bridge with a Ray Ross bridge which improve the overall articulation of the instrument; I recommend the Ray Ross bridge as well. The bottom line is that compared to some of the other budget instruments available, such as Squire, you are getting a much better bass for the money; it is easily comparable to MIM Fender and in my opinion as good as a Fullerton Fender
