 I would try the S30 over this but I fear it will sound the same as the CS1 series 2. I am leaning towards the larger CSI A6 which may be a difficult match to the rest of my system, but well worth a try.

This speaker was intended to be an upgrade from an existing Polk Audio CS1 series 2 center channel speaker. In all honesty I knew that it would be asking a lot of (6) 3” speakers to perform as well as (2) 5 1/4” midrange drivers. The cabinet is an aesthetically pleasing design and I must admit the mid century design is very pleasing. But the sound quality was seriously lacking

 This little speaker just doesn’t hold a candle to the rest of my setup. It’s also kind of a giveaway at the price reductions since the speaker was released. Polk has it directly for $399, and eBay has it for $197 with free shipping (12/27/19). The speaker just is not worth anything much over $100

Don’t expect much.

 I bought it used/like new from amazon for $144, so I guess you can't go wrong with that. But as mentioned it is lacking quite a bit in the sound quality department. I will most likely be upgrading to the Polk Audio Reserve R400 or maybe even the R350 (same idea as the S35 but hopefully much better quality).

 After much use I have concluded that at regular/ lower levels of sounds the speaker actually does sound pretty good. However, when played at loud volumes the bass is lacking quite a bit and the mid-highs are "crunchy" sounding. I was hoping that this speaker would hold its own when paired with my Polk Audio Rti A3's, but this just did not happen. Even though the A3's are bookshelf speakers and are much older, they completely over powered and sound much more crisp when compared to the S35 center channel

Not what I had hoped

I ordered this center channel speaker for two reasons. First, I've been using a Pioneer SP-C22 which was too large to place directly below my TV and this units slim profile was perfect. The SP-C22 sells for less than 100 dollars. Secondly I liked the appearance which pairs nicely with my Elac UF5's and UB5's

 I was leary that such small drivers could deliver meaningfull bass but after reading the reviews I felt like this wouldn't be a problem. Well after replacing my SP-C22 the difference was immediately obvious, basically no bass. After trying several crossover frequencies and even setting the speakers to large still nothing. Granted the mids and highs are fairly decent but overall I'm quite disapointed

Disappointed in bass responce

After 2 months of owning and critical listening, I realized its more looks than performance. Its boomy sounding when volume gets tuned up and thats annoying to listen to on such a good looking speaker. My L&R speakers still sound better than this S35 center in movies and music. I wanted to believe in this speaker but now I'm looking in for something better

 Those weren't a good match for the Pinnacles at all largely due to the fact that the Pioneers used soft dome tweeters and more importantly were not tamber matched at all to the Prime Pinnacles. The reason I mention this is when I plugged the Prime Center and Bookshelf speakers up I was instantly floored at just how massive of an upgrade they were over the Pioneers. This wasn't just down to the tamber matching either. In listening closely to the Center channel, dialogue and effects were suddenly crystal clear and had impact when needed even in movies that have well-known issues with dialogue clarity such as Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises

 I could actually make out Bane's voice much more clearly than ever before which is a big plus in my opinion. The Center was much harder to gauge in video games as many of them, like Call of Duty for example, don't use the Center channel at all and instead have everything being pumped through the left and right channels. However, checking out Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Phoenix Rising which do use the Center channel for dialogue, character movement, as well as other effects, the improvement in overall clarity and crispness was again an instant and massive upgrade. And since the Center is tamber matched to the Pinnacles, sounds that would pan across the front soundstage like a weapon swing for instance, sounded seamless and more like you were using three of the same speaker for the fronts instead of a different sized Center channel

 Base response is amazing as well, though in my case a bit too accentuated because I have them right up against the side walls. A little EQ reduced this overbearing bass and really made the speakers shine, as did crossing them over at 80Hz. I did also use the Prime bookshelves as my front left and right speakers and was honestly amazed at how big the sound was coming out of them. They legit sounded like speakers twice their size and actually give my Pioneer Tower speakers run for their money

I currently have a Yamaha RXV1900, SVS SB-2000, and 5 mirage nano sat speakers.

40% movies, 40% music, 20% games.  

I’d love to have better speakers everywhere, but size/placement options are very difficult in my living room.  Right now the nanosats are inverted from exposed beams.

The primary issue is that dialogue gets lost easily in movies. I’ve adjusted EQ, used the various DSP settings, boosted the channel as high as possible without it dominating, but overall it’s all just a poor fix.  Can anyone recommend a center channel that would match well?  I can put the center speaker on a shelf, so this speaker doesn’t have to be small like the others.

Alternatively, if there is another small/cube style speakers out there that can be mounted similarly and are relatively the same size that would blow these away, please bring on the recommendations.

Room size is 22’ x 24’.  Listening distance is about 16’ away.  

Center channel budget $500 max.  For fronts and surrounds I’m fairly open on price since I don’t believe there are too many options?

Recommendations for a center channel? Or better speakers all around?

Not sure I'd really want the Prime Bookshelves as my main front L/R speakers. They're just slightly under sized for what they are in that use case, at least I think so. &#x200B;. But also I'd try and sway you away from SVS for the speakers, for the money you're looking to spend here, you really should look at the Ascend Acoustics CMT340SE's and the center

 The ports on the back for bass are very small. Even pulling down the crossover to 50hz. Flat. Speaker sounded very tinny
