Cheap but good touring drumkit suggestions

 Drum head wise this kit comes with a complement of Chinese made Remo heads with the pearl logos on them. You've got something akin to a power stroke head on the kick drum, then you have single ply heads on everything else, you've got clear heads on the toms and a coated head on the snare. It's worth noting this kit also comes with a bass drum muffling pillow and some Velcro in there too so you've got a way you can muffle that kick drum straight away. The bass drum in this kit has a fairly neutral character, it's not got a tonne of low end but it is definitely a usable sound

 As far as the hardware goes we've got two cymbal stands, a hi-hat stand, we've got a snare stand and also a bass drum pedal. This whole bundle comes in at £803 so that's a lot of gear for your money. Let's check out how it sounds in a bit more detail. Let's see how it sounds

 It's worth noting this kit also comes with a bass drum muffling pillow and some Velcro in there too so you've got a way you can muffle that kick drum straight away. The bass drum in this kit has a fairly neutral character, it's not got a tonne of low end but it is definitely a usable sound. Those power stroke style heads are definitely doing it a favour here because it's got quite a dead sound that's going to be really good in the studio or under a microphone and just generally very easy to tune up and get a good sound out of. The rack toms on this kit sounded really good out of the box, the note doesn't hang around particularly long with them but they do have a really good tone, mic'd up well, definitely great sounding drums

 I really liked the Opti Lock system for mounting the Raktoms too, kind of a scaled down version of the Opti mounts you see on the more expensive kits in the Pearl range, I really like that system and it's cool to see that filtering down to the export range too. It's pretty clear to me why this is the best selling drum kit of all time, for all of these features and great sound at that price it's obviously a winning combo that's going to appeal to a ton of drummers out there like we've mentioned whether you're a beginner or an intermediate or even an advanced player looking for a secondary kit, this could be the one for you. Overall I think my favourite thing with this kit is just the number of drums you get and the quality of the sound that you get for that price point. On the other hand my least favourite things with this kit would be perhaps that floor tom and the cymbals however if you were to upgrade your cymbals, get some new drum heads on there, there's no reason why this kit wouldn't last you for many many years to come

Pearl Export Series Kit - Drummer's Review

 It's probably down to how good the bass drum sounds I've got to say pearl bass drums always have an amazing thump to them in my experience so maybe it's that that keeps me wanting to stay behind the kit for even longer but I think it's such an important thing if you want to get good at the drums then you've got to put the hours in and a drum kit that inspires us to do that that's going to last for years that comes with great hardware that's got great value for money tick tick tick tick tick buy yourself a pearl export and a new snare drum.  One of the more disappointing parts of the Pearl Expo has to be the low to mid range tuning of the snare drum in this kit. As you can hear, tuned down low, this doesn't sound all that great. I've tried many a time to get a good sound out of the low range tuning of the snare but unfortunately it just doesn't quite cut it for me. However cranked back The first ever Pearl Expo was released in 1984 and by 1995 Pearl had sold over a million exports worldwide

 I've got a genera on the snare and an EMAD Pearl export shells use a hybrid of Asian mahogany and poplar and are cut with 45 degree bearing edges. They come in a variety of shell pack sizes and in this video I'm playing a 22 inch kick drum, 12 and 13 inch rack toms, a 16 inch floor tom and a 14 inch snare drum.  I've owned this kit for over five years in my teaching studio which means I've been teaching 30 to 40 students a week, six days a week for over five years on this kit and I've not experienced any problems with this kit whatsoever. I've had to change the drum heads but that's something we'd expect to do normally anyway. One thing's for sure it's definitely built to last. I love the bass drum on this kit

 If you want a little bit more snap out of these drums, put on a single ply head. The pinstripes do really well with this kit, I like the way they sound. Let's put the snare wires on, do the same thing. What's cool is the real musical tone between each drums, nice tone interval from high to low, and I have them tuned sort of low and thuddy at the moment

 And most every company makes great kick drum spurs. Pearl has a great take on their spurs and they've had them around for a really long time because really if it's not broke, don't fix it, that kind of thing. These spurs are sturdy as heck. The kick drums never move

Pearl Session Studio Select 5-piece Shell Pack Review

 Now, this kit comes with a 60 degree bearing edge cut. It comes fitted with the Remo pinstripes, which I think was a great pick for this kit because it naturally just kind of cuts the sustain and gets right to the point with these punchy toms. Now, I know a lot of people say this about new kits that they sound great right out of the box, but this is a true fact with this kit. I set it up and just kind of did a finger tap tuning

 I have to say this kit looks different every light in every room, but the upkeep is a little bit more because it shows every speck of dust and every piece of hair that falls on it. This kit comes equipped with the Pearl's trademark Super Hoop 2s with a 2.3 millimeter triple flange hoop sitting on the Opti-Mount suspension system, which I like, makes it easy for any type of setup and configuration. One aesthetic I really like about what they added to this series is the new Session Studio Select badge using the classic music bronze and black color scheme, which fits this finish perfectly

 Now, I know a lot of people say this about new kits that they sound great right out of the box, but this is a true fact with this kit. I set it up and just kind of did a finger tap tuning. Pearl Session Studio Select Review/Demo

 Aesthetics wise, the gloss black is classy and timeless, we really liked the slightly bronze look of the logo badges too, and finally the mahogany interiors of the shells add a beautiful detail that sets them apart from the crowd. The Sessions Studio Select drums come fitted with Chinese made Remo UT series heads, with something like a clear pinstripe over ambassador setup on the toms, you've got a coated ambassador on the snare, while the bass drum has a clear power stroke style batter head, and a ported coated front head. Also included is a bass drum muffling pillow that Velcro's into place to dampen the batter head. Once we got into tuning the drums, we were really pleased to find they settled into an even pitch all round, the only exception being the 14 inch tom that took us a little bit longer to get into tune, it did suffer from a kind of pronounced pitch dive sound that didn't seem to go away no matter how we tuned it, however we do feel like this is more to do with the head than any other reason

 Build quality wise, we were really impressed with the construction and the fit and finish of these shells. Across the board, there's no blemishes to be seen, and overall there's a very pro feel to this kit. We've always thought highly of Pearl's shell hardware, and this kit's no exception, with the OptiMount rack mount systems, the Super 2 hoops, and everything else feeling really solid and dependable. The snare throw-off mechanism is perhaps the only bit that felt a little bit flimsy, but it's still totally usable in its operation

 Finally, we really enjoyed the snare, it was crisp, loud and articulate, and we particularly enjoyed how it sounded in mid-tuning where there was a beautiful balance of overtones. Despite its loud modern voice, we actually found that this was a very versatile sounding snare with a great snare off sound as well as a really nice cross stick. Across the board, the tonality of this kit was bright and punchy, which I guess makes sense given the birch plies, but I have to say we were a little bit surprised that we didn't encounter more mid-range warmth and resonance as a result of the mahogany, as well as the very thin shell construction. As it is though, we felt that this kit had a lot of focus on stick definition that we can imagine sounding immense in the hands of a heavy hitting speed demon

 Across the board, the tonality of this kit was bright and punchy, which I guess makes sense given the birch plies, but I have to say we were a little bit surprised that we didn't encounter more mid-range warmth and resonance as a result of the mahogany, as well as the very thin shell construction. As it is though, we felt that this kit had a lot of focus on stick definition that we can imagine sounding immense in the hands of a heavy hitting speed demon. Our initial impression of these drums is that they're certainly thin shells, feeling quite lightweight yet still solid when you handle them
