 The snare strainer deserves a special mention being an actual DW Mag Throw Off design, a super hardware and it's great to see on a drum at this price point. We feel that the Concept Maple shells would make for prime candidates for intermediate and student drummers upgrading from their first drum kits, as well as being a good option for a secondary kit for professional drummers and teachers alike. That said we do feel like the specific finish that we have here is certainly going to appeal more to the younger players out there, though of course there are myriad other options available within the range. Looking at similarly priced offerings from other major manufacturers, we feel like this kit definitely offers good value for money and it definitely should be taken into consideration alongside kits like perhaps the Mapex Armoury and the Pearl Decade kits that we featured here on Drummer's Review

 pack today comes in the limited edition blue lacquer finish, and features a 22x18 inch

 bass drum, 10x7 and 12x8 inch rack toms, a 16x14 inch floor tom, and a 14x5 inch snare

 drum. This whole package comes in at £890 retail, although looking around the street

 Unboxing this kit it's hard not to be struck by the vivid blue lacquer finish. The orange

 bass drum hoops also offset this in quite a marmite fashion some might say. It's certainly

 going to be something that you're either going to love or hate, but we can certainly

 imagine it's going to appeal especially to younger players out there. Looking past the

 finish these drums have a well-built look to them, with especially that lug design standing

 out and giving it a bit of a heavier duty look than you normally get at this price point.

 These shells came outfitted with Chinese made DW branded Remo heads. You've got clear single

 ply heads on both the batter and resonant sides of the toms. The snare features a coated

 single ply head on the batter, while the bass drum has something akin to a power stroke

 on both the batter and resonant side. The bass drum resonant head doesn't feature

 any kind of porting, though included from the PDP factory are two little pillows to

 muffle both the resonant and batter sides of the bass drum.

 Speaking of which, the bass drum had plenty of attack and quite a short voice for an unported

 drum. It's a modern sound with that kind of satisfying character that you expect from

 a maple drum at this price point. We can imagine that plenty of buyers of these kits will opt

 to go for a ported front head in order to unleash a far more aggressive sound, especially

 for live playing. Moving on to the rack toms they had bags of stick attack, with quite

 a long sustain when mounted using the STM mounting system which is derived from the

 Big Brother DW kits. I've described the sound here as clear and articulate, and it's

 easy to imagine that if you were to upgrade the heads you get even stronger tones and

 a wider tuning range. The floor toms showed a lot of promise with

 a mighty slap. I think this drum in particular could benefit from being upgraded to a double

 ply head to really extract the most out of the full low end it could offer, but even

 with the factory heads it sat well alongside the rack toms and bass drum with that similar

 sharp and clear tone. The snare drum is a very usable instrument with plenty of volume

 and cut. It's got a sprightly character and Nick particularly commented that he enjoyed

 the cross stick sound on this drum. While many are quick to upgrade from matching

 snares we actually feel like this drum's got plenty to offer, and especially because

 it's got some really decent shell hardware it could be a good one to keep in the collection.

 The level of finishing quality present here is great, especially that lacquer finish which

 is just flawlessly applied, giving a mirror like shine under lights. While close inspection

 of the interior of the shells does show a few little blemishes, there's nothing that's

 unacceptable at this price point, and certainly nothing that affects the operation of the

 drums in any way. Perhaps one of the best aspects of these drums

 is the very solid feeling shell hardware. Everything's very stable when set up and

 gives you the sense that these drums could stand up to heavy use with no problems.
