For the money this is a nice drum kit

I finally ended up having to by a whole new high hat unit. Bottom line, if not for these two stripped parts I would have given 4 stars as the drums do sound nice with the exception of the cymbals which are kind of cheap.

Drum Heads

Great quality for the price..

The drum set came with stock heads which are OK, but not great. Playable, though. I quickly bought Evans G2 Coated heads for batters and Evans G1 Clear for the reso heads. I also tried clear emporer heads as well, but I think this kit sounds best with coated batter heads

Pearl Jazz Kit is Awesome!

I'm sure that's nothing a better drum head can fix. Overall it sounds great. You cannot beat the price! The quality of the hardware is good

Tuning

Beautiful solid kit!

I put some new DW heads on (clear with the white ring dampeners) rather than the PDP logo heads included. The included heads look fine and appear to be clear Remo Ambassadors or very similar, The tuning for the toms was a breeze and I was able to get a really good tone on all three in pretty short order. The 16 inch floor tom really booms. I put an Evans Emad on the 22 inch bass drum and it too has a booming projection and the pedal rubber pad on the hoop was a nice little bonus

I'm fully aware that I wasn't buying a top of the line professional drum set, but I still had expectations from pearl. I'm going to kind of break down my reviews into a few sections. First I'm going to talk about the drums (as in the shells). I never got a chance to tune them like I wanted, but for the price

Durability

Great kit for the cost

The included heads are single-ply basic Remo heads, you'll want to swap them out in a few weeks. These are not the fancy custom DW/Remo heads included on more expensive DW kits. For the 8" tom, you'll need to hook it to a cymbal stand, the other toms and floor toms will stand on their own. Also, you'll need to get a snare stand if you don't already have one

Learning to Drum at Fifty-One!

This kit can easily grow with you though, and I've already made a number of changes/additions. I immediately changed out the stock bass and tom drum heads with Remo heads and the snare with an Evans HD Dry. I also replaced the snare wires with PureSound Custom Pro. I purchased a telescoping cymbal stand and then bought a package of Meinl cymbals and hi-hats

Finish

First Impressions, Snare is very good

Sooo, I went to a local music store that just happened to be having a 65th Birthday sale and got a killer deal on this PDP 7 piece kit. The finish on it is a flawless and beautiful Dark Cherry to Black Sparkle Fade (they call it red but it's a deeper shade like cherry, gorgeous and my wife's favorite color). We all know how important it is to get the wife's approval on such a purchase. Anyway, I am just starting to put it together so I will be coming back soon for a full review

Love these drums

These drums are fantastic and even better when you consider the price. I have a DW Collector's series also and am using these as gigging drums now. They really sound great and mic up very nicely and maintain their tune. I have the 7 piece kit and could not be happier

Great drums but had issues with color received

I'll start by saying this is a great drumset for the money. It was purchased for a church and the only thing it's missing is a nice crash symbol. Otherwise it's great quality. Let me start by saying this drums can't be beat for the money
