 This week I challenged myself to take out my old Panasonic GH4 for a quick adventure and see how it holds up. After two years of using the GH5, I wanted to hop back to my GH4 and see how it compares. So I took out my Panasonic GH4, the Feiyu Tech AK4500 gimbal and my Canon 24-70mm lens and I just took it on a quick adventure with some friends to see how it holds up. I shot most of this footage at 1080p 60 frames per second and I also shot some of it at 24 frames per second in 4k

 I shot this video in Cine D sharpness minus 5 and I'm really really happy with the results in terms of color I graded it with my Lumix LUT pack which is in the description below and in terms of colors the GH4 really holds up in a similar way to the GH5 which is a huge huge win and you know overall for a five-year-old camera I think the GH5 has aged extremely well you know at the time of making this video right now the GH4 is for sale on B&H photo for $700 US dollars the GH5 is up there for $1400 US dollars so double the price and in a $700 camera you're getting 4k at 24 frames per second 1080p at 60 frames per second and amazing color profiles in my opinion at least so the GH4 is definitely still worth taking a look at if you're able to think about upgrading and spending that extra seven hundred dollars to get the GH5 I strongly recommend doing that I think the GH5 is definitely worth the upgrade but if you're kind of new to film if you don't have a lot of money or you're just a hobbyist the GH4 can produce some amazing results if it's in the right hands so definitely don't risk disregard the GH4 I would still think about purchasing it in 2019 this entire video was graded using my Panasonic Lumix LUT pack which is in the description below and I also have some color grading tutorials on my channel that will work for both GH4 and GH5 so take a look at those if you're interested and I will see you guys in the next video.

Panasonic GH4 in 2021? (Lumix GH4)

 I can't avoid talking about the video. 4K takes more processing power than my computer has and few people have any means of displaying it. But it can pay dividends in noise, colour control and image stabilisation at the expert editing level and of course it future proofs the camera. I mainly use 1080p for video and there is a bewildering array of quality levels and formats

 The sensor size and 16 megapixel resolution remain the same but there are minor image quality improvements. I have a feeling that I'm making the GH4 sound a bit of a yawn. Isn't there anything as radical for stills as 4K is for the videographer? Nothing is radical, no, but for me, just as exciting is DFD, depth from defocus. I like it for aligning shots taken at different times

 The GH4's electronic viewfinder looks bigger and is clearer, the image richer and more detailed. Faster updating means less smearing. The eye cup is wider, so that not only does it exclude extraneous light better, but four eyes like me can see the screen from corner to corner. And the edges are as crisp as the middle

A Review of the Panasonic GH4 Micro Four Thirds Camera

 You can see yourself. That's what I would recommend when you're doing YouTube videos and you're sitting and interviewing yourself. Okay, another thing I like about this camera is that it has this very good battery. This battery actually lasts two to three times longer than the Sony batteries

 We can only do about 17 to 24 megabits per second. So 50 megabits per second, 1080p, that's twice as much of data streaming into the camera and that will give you a very nice crispy image, right? So you have a clean image for 1080p. In addition, it has a HDMI out, so you can have a clean HDMI output connected to, let's say, an Atomos Shogun or Ninja 2. So the one I am recording right now is with a Sony A5000 with Ninja 2, but I could also hook up my Panasonic to the Ninja 2 at 10-bit 422, right? Whereas my Sony A5000 can only record 8-bit 422

 Currently, I'm using my Sony A5000 or A6000, for example. They have a smaller battery. It's going to last you only about 90 minutes, where this is like double, almost two and a half times longer. Even this is a third-party battery, I noticed that it lasts quite a long time

 In addition, it has a HDMI out, so you can have a clean HDMI output connected to, let's say, an Atomos Shogun or Ninja 2. So the one I am recording right now is with a Sony A5000 with Ninja 2, but I could also hook up my Panasonic to the Ninja 2 at 10-bit 422, right? Whereas my Sony A5000 can only record 8-bit 422. So big difference, right? 422 ProRes. Also, if I decide to hook up to my Atomos Shogun Inferno, I can get 4K DCI or DCI 4K 422 10-bit with this camera

Is Panasonic GH4 still relevant video camera for 2022 and beyond

I have seen a lot noted about aperture equivalence - but even with my relatively poor eyesight this thing clearly stinks in low light and I spend a lot of time at higher ISOs as a result (BTW - it only goes down to 200 - not the 100 other reviewers note). By ISO 1600 it is already grainier than my D750 at ISO 6400. Very disappointed. - As for video - my D750 is a CLEAR winner when the video is just HD (the Nikon has unbelievable dynamic range) - but that is as good as it gets for Nikon

  So now for the good/great. - The range of lenses as well as the ability to use all of my Nikon full frame lenses with a Metabones is great. Huge benefit. Almost a necessity as safe to say I have been underwhelmed by the quality of the Panasonic and Olympus lenses I purchased originally for my GX85 (though I'll note I love the GX85 itself)

The "image" is phenomenal and has earned raves from everyone who has seen even the raw footage I have taken

 I take way more photos than videos (about 3,000 pictures per month) - so that really matters.

Time with this camera has lowered my opinion a bit...

  The obvious: The G4 is about half the size and much lighter but it still feels solid in the hands. Crop factor is 2X (goes up to 2.3 in some 4k movie modes). Interface is a nice step up from the 7D, although I'm having to get use to not accidentally touching the LED touch screen and going into some menu mode

 It seems to actually push up on the LVF rubber eyepiece. I wonder how much use it will take before becoming a problem?  The back video record button (used when not in "movie" mode) is not as easy to turn on/off when you have big thumbs. It's nice that it crops the LVF frame when you are recording so it's real easy to tell if it is recording video or not. There is a slight lag when turning video recording off so it's easy to hit the button twice because you thought you didn't stop recording at first

The "movie" mode is nice in that it gives you the proper framing from the get-go in the LVF, and now the shutter button starts and stops video recording. One thing I do NOT like about this is that apparently you lose the ability to shoot stills when shooting video

Got mine just a few minutes ago (4/29/14)

 My goal was to provide high quality reviews so I knew I needed to get a good 4K camera. This camera came up in every one of my Google searches so I decided to give it a shot. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on my video quality with this camera. People ask me what equipment I use all the time

 My zoom lens is the Panasonic 12-60mm F.35-5.6. I think I’ll eventually go back and buy another Metabones Speed Booster and Sigma lens again but for now I’m happy with my setup

 The learning curve for shooting proper 4K can be a little steep with this camera at first but I’ve got it down now. There are a bunch of YouTube videos that explain how to change the settings for optimal 4K video quality. I originally came from a Canon EOS 70D and this camera put the Canon to shame on video quality even when shooting 1080p. However, I do still prefer the still image quality of the Canon

 Nowadays, you can find it used for about $450, and you can actually find it cheaper than that if you shop around. So just what do you get with this 8-year-old camera? Well, there's a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor, 4K video at 24 and 30 frames per second, and a 3-inch 1.3-million-dot fully articulating LCD screen. Build quality of the GH4 is magnesium alloy, and it is really good

 For one, things like this on the Olympus or the Canon or the Sony, I just hit record and start talking. With the Panasonic, as you can see in that shot, it takes kind of a while to actually find focus. See, one of the most obvious problems with contrast detect autofocus is it's just slow. You know, when I film these videos, there's always that part where I hold the camera up and I'm talking about the build quality and then I pull it down and it reveals my face and I'm standing there talking

 You literally can't film a clip like that on the GH4 just because the autofocus can't keep up. Now, fortunately, I realize a lot of you guys clicking on this video are probably filmmakers and you're probably behind the camera manually focusing, so autofocus isn't that big of a problem. But I am saying this for anyone who's looking at this camera for YouTube videos. That is one of those things that you need to take into consideration

 There's bad autofocus and there's no in-body image stabilization. But having said that, if you're a filmmaker on a budget and you're literally looking for something under $500, I don't think you're going to find another camera with this many video centric features in that $450 price range. You know, you can find other cameras in that price range that have good-looking video, namely like the Sony a6000 or a6300, but you're not going to find a camera in that $450 range that has that many video centric features. That on the other hand is really hard to come by in that price range and for that reason, waiting on this car to quit f***ing up my audio

The Panasonic LUMIX GH5 II is arguably one of the best 4k video cameras you can get outside of buying a dedicated cinema camera. It has a Micro Four Thirds sensor and has plenty of advanced video features, making it a popular choice for amateur filmmakers and videographers. It feels incredibly comfortable to shoot with, has a fully articulated screen to make shooting video easier, and features five-axis in-body image stabilization to reduce camera shake when shooting handheld.

The camera supports many recording formats and video codecs, including All-I compression for those who prefer to do frame-by-frame edits with higher-quality video files. It supports V-log recording and, depending on your video format, it can shoot 4k 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally to give you greater latitude when processing your videos.  That'S where we're still going to see some advantages on the other guys, no record limit for the video i mean that opens up a whole bunch of stuff for wedding photographers event: videographers uh. You know anything like that. I mean this is great stuff yeah. I find the image very comparable to the fs7, which is you know, they're everywhere, because it's a great reliable, workhorse camera with a nice picture very comparable to that now we haven't tested the c200 or the new eva 1, but this is still going to fill the Niche for us, because we need a small mobile camera, especially with that built-in stabilizer

 You go uh huge update, but there's a bunch of other stuff that came along with that which we'll definitely be talking about. Also we have v-log on these cameras. You can see the ungraded log right now, so we're going to touch on that for a bit. But let's start with the headline feature, which has been there from this sure i mean we just recently did a tcs episode about external recorders and and how they, you know, enhance your bit rate on a lot of cameras, your color space, but the gh5 has, from The very beginning had internal 10-bit 422 and that's a huge advantage yeah, it's extremely rare, especially with like a hybrid camera like this

 But for us, where does this fit in the video camera world? And i mean the only real drawback to it. I can see is if you need good, continuous autofocus from your cameras right um. That'S where we're still going to see some advantages on the other guys, no record limit for the video i mean that opens up a whole bunch of stuff for wedding photographers event: videographers uh.  Yes, would you say that this is your favorite camera camera under 10 grand yeah i've been saying that a lot absolutely. If we have the choice of the fs7 or the gh5, i go to the gh5 for that stabilizer uh, the intuitive interface and then the fact that it's under 3 000. - that's just crazy. Panasonic GH5 Review (After 6 Months!)

Almost perfect, the best 4K color depth video camera (prosumer) BUT for the autofocus problems in keeping the main subject in focus. Firmware update to support 4:2:2 in 10bit color is slow and unavailable as of August 2017. Recommend gimble stabilizer even with a LUMIX IS lens.

4K Color Video Powerhouse!

 I would stack the Olymous Zuiko lenses up against the branded Nikon lenses any day of the week. In addition, ignoring the difference in focal length my Panasonic/Leica f1.2 42.5 rivals my Otus f1

- Image stability - I am very excited for the improvements - but I definitely need to do a lot of testing to see how it really performs.

 Now there are some poor lenses too, but if you are willing to pay a little more I have found all of the Panny/Leica and Olympus Zuiko lenses to be very, very good.
