It’s just over $1000 I think but the Onkyo NR7100 is 9.2 channel, has Dirac live which is way ahead of XT32 room correction and way more flexible, and far better value per dollar than the equivalent Denon. 

Well I finally convinced my wife that a good receiver was worth spending money on. 

Pro-tip: My tactic is to talk non stop for a week about the awesome $1600 model so that I finally compromise with her for the $800 model. This works for tools, guns, computers, and fish-tanks too! It's been about 30 years and she still hasn't caught on 😄

*So* I picked up the Denon AVR-S960H, in stock at Best Buy for $750.

This replaces a 10 year oold Sony model that didn't have fancy bells &amp; whistles like HDMI 2.1, Audessey, etc.

If you had a choice to replace the Denon with any other model under $1000, would you? And which would it be? I just want to be sure I've made the right choice before the return period expires. 

The Denon seems nice, and I've paired it with a new dream speaker set up of Klipsch RP series, including RP180f, RP450c, RP250s, and SPL-150. 

It's heavenly, and my wonderful wife listened for a couple minutes to some movie magic and music and said "wow, I get it. Sounds great." It was very rewarding, like introducing someone to steak when they've eaten hamburger-helper for years. I know there's lobster too but I'm not rich!

I bought the 8K model because I want to play 4K games at 120hz on my LG C9 (OLED rocks) when I can finally score a 3080 or lol 4080. But do I NEED to go through the receiver? It seems like I would want to go through the receiver, otherwise to access the menu I'd have to switch inputs just to access the menu to change bass settings - gosh I just want more knobs 😐 The HEOS app wouldn't detect the set so I couldn't use it yet, need to troubleshoot.

*Anyway*, so what other receiver should I consider in this price range. I can't go higher than one grand. She has her limits and I need to leave room in the wallet for good bourbon 😇

Recommendation to replace Denon AVR-S960H

 I think it's 24 or 28 gigabits per seven per second, so we'll leave it at 4k enhanced, so that'll get the 4k uh 60 um up to the um, all the hdr formats. So we won't put that at 4k, enhanced right so we'll leave that there and i'm not sure why phono is on 4k enhanced, i'm not sure yeah. I can't turn it off, but that's very important guys so make sure you do this now, also guys when i first turned it on uh. It says: welcome and all that stuff, but also a firmware update, popped up right away

 This is, if you want the audio of your source, to pass through the receiver to your tv speakers um sure i think that's a good thing. Yeah absolutely leave that on because now every time i want to have my receiver on, i want to use my tv speakers. So this way the the sound passes through the receiver to your tv speakers, so they can be used uh when you want uh e-arc. Of course is on uh lipstick

 Oh that's amazing! So if this honky was in my home theater, i would definitely get my clip speakers set up to it but um, but for eclipse owners out there a huge, plus and win to get this onkyo, because it's gon na be matched with your clip speaker. So huge huge props to unkill for putting that in that's amazing, um yeah. So that's that distance, of course, is going to be. You know how many feet for speaker to listening position level calibration whoa boy, it's gon na get loud, i think, hold on [ Music

 So i would probably turn this on to [ Music ] uh, i'm gon na, say 30 min uh, i'm gon na say an hour. So if it doesn't have any signal for an hour, it'll turn off automatically unit. While i can off in no signal so turns off automatically, if no signal that'll, no, no, no, not necessarily uh, let's see usb power turn that off network standby on. So if you want to, you know, play music through the onkyo from your app like turn on

I love this AVR. Onkyo TX-NR7100 - Setup and Menu Overview.

These are a class above the Klipsch.  The tightness of the bass without any sacrifice for high end.  Stupidly good value for money.  I cannot recommend enough

 I've gone through EVERY source possible to research the problem to no avail.  I'll try to give Onkyo a call tomorrow and see if they can help - I'm sure they'll blame it on the brand new Samsung UST projector and Samsung will blame it on the Onkyo.  My 10 year old Denon that was 1/3 the price and used audessey for room correction sounded both better AND louder than this $1100.00 boat anchor

 It's NOT the center channel as that works fine. There simply is no dialog sound. I've gone through EVERY source possible to research the problem to no avail. First impressions have NOT been good.

 A radio antenna loop, a 12-volt trigger, an iron port, an Ethernet connector, an RS-DU 132 jack for home automation, and USB input were added by the Onkyo TX and R7100 to complete the rear. Here's my second criticism. I wish the USB port had been added to the front panel as well. It's difficult to insert my flash drive into the rear port, which has some of my favorite CD that have been ripped to flak

35 mm and 3.5 mm headphone outputs, a room correction mic input and an HDMI 2.0 connection. Here's where I'll make my first little complaint

9.2 Channel - Onkyo TX-NR7100 AV Receiver Reviews In 2022

 Within shouting distance of the Enchanted 10 Benjamins line, the TX Real NR7100's

 9-channel power architecture enables a full 5.1 4 Dolby Atmos system without the

 need for further amplification. The TX NR7100, an ordinary AV receiver, has more

 functions than Jimmy and Rosalind have peanuts. Start with the HDMI connectors

 which are the most perplexing. The six main HDMI inputs on the receiver are all

 listed by Onkyo as being version 2.1. However, only the first three inputs and

 two outputs offer 40 Gbps bandwidth. The other inputs have a 24 Gbps maximum.

 Other HDMI features on the TX NR7100 include VRR, ALN, UFD, DSC, QMS and

 eARC. The following high dynamic range formats are supported HDR10+, Dolby

 Vision, HDR10 and HLG. A second remote zone output can be served by one of the

 TX HDMI NR7100's outputs. Although at the moment, video support is limited to 4K

 at 60 hz. Onboard features include Build, AirPlay and Chromecast, as well as

 two-way Bluetooth with Bluetooth aptX HD on the transmit side. I am aware that

 aesthetics are completely arbitrary independent on personal preference, but I

 like the way the Onkyo TX NR7100 looks. It has a straightforward design

 with tiny knobs for sound modes and tone and a big volume knob on the front.

 The 1990s are here. Push buttons on the front panel are used for both for

 selection and tuning to EEM or FM. On the front of the device, Onkyo added

 6.35 mm and 3.5 mm headphone outputs, a room correction mic

 input and an HDMI 2.0 connection. Here's where I'll make my first little

 complaint. I don't like the greenish LED display, although I can reduce the light

 to the point where it nearly isn't perceptible. I like the warm white of

 most AV receivers. With the main and sub 8K HDMI 2.1 output supplied by Onkyo,

 you may concurrently stream two distinct zones. With a flat panel and

 projector connected in the same room, I can see how AV enthusiasts might find

 this appealing. Keep in mind that only the main output supports arc or eARC.

 Six HDMI 2.1 or HDCP 2.3 ports are included on the Onkyo TX NR7100,

 with ports 1-3 operating at 40, and 4-6 at 24. Only ports 1-3 of the TX NR7100

 are uncompressed. Despite Onkyo's claims that it can handle 4K 120 on all six

 inputs, what does this imply for your configuration? I tested my LG B9 with my

 Xbox Series X on every port and received 4K 120 on every one of them. The

 five-way binding posts are present on all nine channels. You may power zones 2

 and 3 with the help of the surround back and high channels, or you can bi-amp

 your front right and left speakers. The remaining speaker connections consist of

 two subwoofer pre-outs. Your base management will treat them as a single

 subwoofer because the Onkyo TX NR7100 lacks dual independent subwoofer
