So far, it's mainly miniscule downgrades that I'm seeing in my new phone that I've tied myself to a contract of 2 years for, already I'm starting to question my decision, even with the free pair of Bose headphones.

Last October, I decided to trade in my Pixel 4 for a Galaxy S20 FE thinking that it would be a faster more enjoyable phone, and also I had battery issues with the 4. Sure the phone felt quick and snappy at the beginning but after a couple months, the phone was feeling very sluggish. I think the culprit of this is actually OneUI's heavy focus on "extra features" on top of Android. Bottom line is I wasn't happy

But the OnePlus 8T carries a $749 Pro-level asking price, a steep increase versus the $599 7T and the $549 6T. That makes it no longer a "flagship killer" but a true flagship that needs to go directly up against Apple's and Samsung's similarly priced phones. The 8T has excellent network performance on T-Mobile and some unique features like super-speedy 65W charging, but ultimately, it doesn't deliver more value than the $699 Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

The phone doesn't hold a charge long, I have turned off many applications. It takes a lot longer to charge than my older one plus 6.

Battery life also seems to be decent - especially if you turn off the high 120hz refresh rate (I'm not bothered by 60hz) and do a little bit of tuning to maximize battery life.

As my phone is *mostly* in a case I’d have sprung for the S20FE or the S20+ as Samsung’s UI doesn’t bother me, but I’m concerned about the longevity of the phone as we get Exynos 990 in India. I’ve used the US version of Samsung S9 and was really happy about it till the glass broke. After reading about the Exynos 990 I don’t know whether my experience would be as good as the one I had with S9 at the end of 18 months.

My wife is now using my previous A50 model and is very satisfied. Previously all the Samsungs were the S series. I have never cracked a screen that I recall and that makes me believe they are sturdy.

However, I got this phone for $500 new and it seemed like the best deal out there at the time. I don't regret it, I just wish there had been more thought put into some of the design choices.

The design of the Pixel 5 is literally perfect for me. I love the size and the colour but the bad speakers and lack of SD card slot is a tough sell.

Less obvious from the spec sheet is that the 8T’s display is flat this time around, which means fewer accidental touches on its sides and more screen pointed directly at your face. It might make the phone look a little less premium, but I think it makes for a device that’s far more usable.
