Nikon Monarch 5 vs Nikon Monarch HG 10x42

It's a personal thing for me about the 8.2 ft close focus distance. Caps are a minor, physical problem with the binocular accessories! Bino's themselves are worth every penny!

Optics In all honesty, I was not blown away when I looked through these bins. That was a little disappointing at first glance, but then I started to pay more attention to what I was seeing. Or, more to the point, what I wasn’t seeing. I am used to bins that are pretty decent, but I always notice that I’m looking through a lot of glass

I'm an avid outdoorsman and have been wanting to get into bird watching, hunting, and just general exploring/tracking of animals. I have never had a good set of binos but have had a couple of \~$30 ones. My dad knew I was looking to get a good pair and he did a bunch of research which landed him on the Monarch 5.

I recently purchased Nikon Monarch HG binoculars. Other Nikon products I've purchased in the past made me comfortable buying again, but the reasons I went for the HGs are because they are made in Japan and have field flatteners.

Viewing the Orion region with either binocular is an inspiring experience, but more so with the Bushnell’s larger FOV. Image brightness of the Nikon and the Bushnell, as judged by the ability to see faint stars in the Orion region, is the same. Unless the Nikon name, lower weight, compactness and close focus are over-riding considerations, the Bushnell, at 30% of the prize of the Nikon, is the much better deal.

The "diopter" creep continued until I would need to set the diopter to the Max "+" in order to maintain the barrels parfocal. I chalked it up to a manufacturing defect and eagerly waited a replacement pair. At first, the replacement pair needed only minimal diopter adjustment (as is necessary with all my other binoculars). But once again with repeated usage, I needed to adjust the diopter offset more and more
