My sixth-grader wanted a basic black backpack that would hold all her books/essentials since they don’t have lockers. She chose this backpack and was excited when it arrived. She immediately filled it with everything she needed for school only to realize she couldn’t zip it closed because the zipper had been sewn to the backpack and could not be moved.

mystery ranch rip ruck 15 final review

 I couldn't fit all my gear in here. I couldn't figure out how to remove the chest strap if it is removable at all, there's no elastic band to hold the excess straps on the shoulders, once you put things in the inside pockets they aren't very accessible, and on of the mesh pockets is split into two in a pretty odd way. Had a hard time reaching my hand in to get stuff out. Seemed to be some wasted space in there honestly

 If you guys would be curious to see me do a review on these, please let me know in the comments and then the other thing that I have in here is just a simple lightning, cable and micro, USB cable, to charge my devices besides that, just a Really simple compartment, no sort of key clips or felt lining, or anything like that, but I really just like having this simple area to help add a little bit of organization to this large amount of capacity. The last area we're going to take a look at is the laptop compartment, and this has a really great well protected, YKK zipper. It definitely feels like it's going to keep your device protected from the elements, and so this is a top loading compartment, but it has a pretty wide opening to make it easy to see everything that's on the inside and so plenty of space here. In addition to fitting my laptop and tablet, I was also able to squeeze my levitate portable standing desk and then on the flap of the compartment

And you may be wondering why this is called the RIP ruck and that's due to the fact that the zippered compartments on this bag have a really cool, quick rip, opening style zipper and we're gon na definitely take a closer look at that throughout the video lots Of great features here are really solid, build quality. I'Ve been really impressed with the variety of everyday bags that mystery ranch has come out with, and they seem to have something for everybody. The styles of the four bags that we've now looked at on the channel all are a little bit different

 Does a great job of on all of their bags, so this offers a nice amount of capacity and holds up to a 15 inch laptop. Currently, what I have in here is my 13 inch touch bar MacBook Pro, so you can see there's plenty of leftover space here near the top. This also comes up a nice amount. In case you have a thicker device

 My laptop out now with the compartment empty can get a better look at the inside no sort of fleece lining. On either side, which would have been nice to help prevent against scratching, but for the most part it still feels like this offers a nice amount of protection as I'm running around throughout the day, and then one last nice touch here in the laptop area. Is that you do have this zipper here that you can open up if you want to remove the plastic frame sheet from the inside to make the bag a little bit softer if you're not carrying a device, or you don't like having this additional support, you can Pull that out personally, I like to leave it in there, as I feel like it makes the bag a little bit more comfortable. It just feels like it offers some extra support and protection

 The zipper catches in the material every time it's opened or closed. Than you have to fight to get it fixed. It's a pain using that front pocket.

 So that's why but nice segmentation here and again I like that it's slanted here, so you can kind of see this crisscross design here it's higher on this side on the front pocket higher on this side on the back pocket. So you kind of can fish in here and get access a little bit faster, just a better experience than having them. You know flat across. So that's another smart thing

 Sort of has stuck into my back a little bit as I've been using it. I think this sits a little bit higher up on my back than people that aren't quite as tall or don't quite have as long of torso and I'm 6 foot 2. My torso is 19.5 and you can check on the website to verify everyone else's on our team's measurements to if you'd like to see multiple people photographed in the review over at Packard comm, starting in the front here

 Just like other mystery ranch stuff, it's pretty like nice and over built I mean this foam here is probably like an inch. It'S really spongy really thick. You know just like really nice harness system, especially the shoulder straps adjustable sternum, strap here. There'S like this little bungee

 I really love about this guy, there's so much smart stuff going on with this bag. You see this crease right here that actually folds down like this see how easy that floats like effortless, and that gives you easy access to the laptop compartment. So I can easily pull my laptop out if I want quick access to it. The thing I love about this and what mystery ranch has put into place here, is that normally you have bags that maybe have like a more rigid frame sheet in the back

 like a foam sleeping pad to close cell foam ones. So you got your nylon strap here. sternum strap which is adjustable. It's the first time I've had one that adjusts like this, so I'll show it to you

 Well, a camping trip and I would go day hiking with this. Um, I did about 18 miles in two days. Fairly hot. Now that I'm done testing this one, I'm going to turn this into a medic bag get me a Red Cross patch right here, even though the red color kind of gives it away

While this is a bit lengthy in terms of things I would have like to have seen on the pack, I will still say that I am mostly happy with it.  The changes that I would make to it aren’t deal breakers, and I don’t regret my purchase.  I would definitely recommend the Rip Ruck 15 for people that want a smallish pack to use for a daily commute or day trip.  It holds up to everything that I need it for, and I do expect a long life of use out of the pack (unless it is re-released with a few upgrades)

Good pack. but a few missed opportunities

I've used this pack for day excursions into the Colorado Rockies and it's perfectly sized for a pair of binos, a first aid kit, snacks and a rain shell/fleece.  The exterior side pocket is perfect for a water bottle and was one of the reasons I chose the Rip Ruck 15 over the Urban Assault 18.  The 'Wood' color is attractive and the large opening with magnetic closure is a great feature.

Well made & comfortable to carry.
