My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K

The T490s manages to have the familiar matte-black-slab ThinkPad look without coming off as clunky. It's a surprisingly light laptop that makes an excellent traveling companion. It won't give you a sore shoulder traipsing through airports, and its 14-inch display offers enough workspace to perform general office tasks effectively and without feeling cramped.

After fully recharging the laptop, we set up the machine in power-save mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) where available and make a few other battery-conserving tweaks in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. (We also turn Wi-Fi off, putting the laptop in airplane mode.) In this test, we loop a video&mdash;a locally stored 720p file of the same Tears of Steel movie we use in our Handbrake trial&mdash;with screen brightness set at 50 percent and volume at 100 percent until the system conks out.

 In fact, the T490s is closer in weight to Lenovo's flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7. A similarly configured Carbon, however, costs $75 more than my ThinkPad T490s tester, while a comparable T490 is only $20 cheaper. With a price closer to its bulkier sibling, and a size and weight closer to the Carbon, the T490s could be your best 14-inch ThinkPad buy.

The Enter key is SO soft and mushy and I've noticed many of the keys, like the pair of Space bars, are also soft and don't register contact multiple times. VERY frustrating as I can type around 50 wpm and I'm having to Backspace WAY too much! GRR!. I want to send this POS back and try another brand, but I've found no other alternatives in my searches.

 My old model, with a card slot, I routinely swapped out cards depending on my usage. I was hoping the battery life was some improved. It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students

Good but with some disappointments.

We did not open the shrink wrap as there was no indication of a keyboard. Be aware of false depictions of keyboard included even in the video. Otherwise, the product should be ok if you want a tablet, not a PC.
