The Lenovo ThinkPad T460s (starting at $980.10; $1,362.60 as tested) is the latest in a long line of Lenovo business laptops. This Windows 10 PC occupies a sweet spot: modern enough to remain relevant for several years, but priced less at than $1,500

The thin body is attractive, but it also means that Lenovo had to eschew removable battery options. The T460s has a sealed battery that can't be simply swapped out when you run out of juice, as on the ThinkPad T450s. If the battery life were longer, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but as we'll discuss below, you may need to keep your AC adapter handy if you need to stay on top of things all day.

 It has the same keyboard, TrackPoint, and TrackPad layout, along with the wide expanse of palm rest that feels like velvet when compared with the hard aluminum deck of the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display and HP EliteBook Folio G1($1,099.00 at HP)(Opens in a new window). The biometric fingerprint reader has been relocated to the palm rest, but if you've used a ThinkPad T series laptop in the past 10 years, this layout will seem quite familiar.

 It measures 0.74 by 13 by 8.9 inches (HWD), so you can easily slip it in between a binder and your spare shirt in your commute bag.

Preferences: 

The most important thing to me is compatibility with Linux.  It seems like a lot of laptops nowadays have issues with running Linux (particularly with suspending and such), so the most important thing to me is that the hardware will be able to work with Linux out of the box/with minor bios tweaks.

* Battery life
   * Longer is better, as I am a student and will be carrying the machine around daily
* Size: &lt;= 14 inches is preferable
   * Size is not a major factor, as long as I can fit it in a backpack
* Weight
   * I am not picky about weight.

The keyboard felt good for me.  
Now, I am using X240. This is my first thinkpad and I love it.   
On one hand, I find the keyboard is very good even though many of more experience users have different opinion. On the other hand, I like the 7 row keyboard design because we got more functional buttons.

if the chiclet keyboard design had the same travelling distance and 7 row design like the old-glorious thinkpad keyboard, would you be satisfied?

The Enter key is SO soft and mushy and I've noticed many of the keys, like the pair of Space bars, are also soft and don't register contact multiple times. VERY frustrating as I can type around 50 wpm and I'm having to Backspace WAY too much! GRR!. I want to send this POS back and try another brand, but I've found no other alternatives in my searches.

 It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students. Having 2 classes in row will mean you're looking to sit near a plug in class to keep it charged. You can dim the screen down but that's not always possible when you're in a bright classroom

 My old model, with a card slot, I routinely swapped out cards depending on my usage. I was hoping the battery life was some improved. It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students

Good but with some disappointments.

We did not open the shrink wrap as there was no indication of a keyboard. Be aware of false depictions of keyboard included even in the video. Otherwise, the product should be ok if you want a tablet, not a PC.
