Ibanez 2019 SR500E Bass Guitar

Or at least no longer a great deal. 4-5 years ago back when they were US$275 new they were steals, but now that they're $430 plus tax and shipping, they're no longer this amazing moneyball solution, they're at best a decent bass at a fair price. In my opinion if you've got $500 to spend on a bass I'd get a used Mexican Fender or Ibanez SR500, that's where the real value is at that price point.

So, I play guitar, for like 9 years now.

Aaand I wanna get into bass as well, buuut I'm on a pretty tight budget.

So I've been looking at two basses at &lt;500€, which are a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass, and a Sire Marcus Miller V5 Alder

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Ibanez vs Sire

the main reason to get a SR500 is I believe those are the cheapest Ibanez that have those sweet bartolini pickups. I have a 500 and it's great, I think if you get a used one in good condition and give it a proper setup it will make you very happy

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably

 So my personal opinion is: it's worth it, it's good and versatile, very comfortable, not so heavy, but not light either, but is honest and delivers what you're paying, and a bit more, you can definitely use this Bass in your gigs ahead. Bonus:Yamaha's life time warranty looks like a very good deal.

At the end, it's a very balanced Bass, have a variety of tones, and the pickups are very good, define very precisely and naturally every note. I love how it sounds, fits in every sound I play.  It's as good as or better than some $900-$1,300 basses I've played. Definitely recommend. And I really don't understand why cheap basses are pushed on beginners: you're gonna need an instrument that makes you want to learn to play it. It's much harder to make a cheap bass sound good

 Sounds great. Records great. I'm running an Ashdown EB-Lite 12-220 EVO III Combo with a Digitech BP355 modeler/FX in the loop. Sounds great thru BP355s XLR outs to interface, and thru a Sennheiser e902 mic on the amp

 The low B string doesn't sound great. I think amps are very particular about being able to handle B strings or not. I might have to start looking at other amps. But I think 

 And I really don't understand why cheap basses are pushed on beginners: you're gonna need an instrument that makes you want to learn to play it. It's much harder to make a cheap bass sound good. An advanced player can make a cheap bass sound good. A beginner needs the BASS to sound good so they will be obsessed with it enough to play it enough and get good

Exceptional for under $1,000

 I will always sing the praises of Yamaha since I picked up the TRBX305 as my first 5-string, and later traded up to the TRBX605. If you spend just a little more, you get a very good bass that plays like it costs a couple of hundred dollars more. If you can swing it, I'd say save up a bit and buy the Yamaha new or keep an eye on Reverb for a used one that's more comfortably in your range.

Is it possible to buy a good bass for $150?

Tone is excellent. Of course, these days the things are slapped together in Asia by slave labor, so it'll require a proper setup once it arrives. Figure that into the price.  Also accept that something WILL go wrong

It's good, but...

This bass plays and sounds quite nice, after a string change and setup. Intonation was great out of the box, but required truss adjustment, and the action was really high too. Over-all, for a beginner/intermediate player like myself, it was a good purchase, and I like it enough that it helps to inspire me to play and practice a lot.  My nit-picks: The finish on the bass I got is not so great

 This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3.5 to 4 stars from me because of the minor imperfections, but it's so fun to play, that I couldn't bring myself to return it, or rate it any lower.

  When I first plugged in the bass, I could hear some serious humming from the neck pickup. I plugged my amp into a few different outlets, to see if it was a bad ground, but it persisted until I tossed the junk battery that came with the bass out and put in a new one. This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3

 This bass is made in Indonesia. I was a little squirrelly, but the construction is top notch and I found nothing to complain about. I couldn't find any obvious flaws, and it looks, feels, and plays great. No cheap construction materials here
