Ibanez 2019 SR500E Bass Guitar

Or at least no longer a great deal. 4-5 years ago back when they were US$275 new they were steals, but now that they're $430 plus tax and shipping, they're no longer this amazing moneyball solution, they're at best a decent bass at a fair price. In my opinion if you've got $500 to spend on a bass I'd get a used Mexican Fender or Ibanez SR500, that's where the real value is at that price point.

So, I play guitar, for like 9 years now.

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Ibanez vs Sire

the main reason to get a SR500 is I believe those are the cheapest Ibanez that have those sweet bartolini pickups. I have a 500 and it's great, I think if you get a used one in good condition and give it a proper setup it will make you very happy

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably

 I've got this fantastic bass, so this is the Yamaha TRBX 174 and this one's in metallic red, it comes in various other colours as well, there's blue, black, there's exotic root beer with an exotic mango top, but yeah this one I think is my favourite, metallic red. Look at that, stunning bass, great shape and this neck is fantastic to play, it's so comfortable. I'll play you some little bits in a bit and I'll do some noodling as well because it's great for all that kind of lead stuff. Even like high up on the neck, the action's really good for a bass, this kind of bass, it's kind of entry level bass really, it's great if you just want to start off, great for intermediate players, but also pros as well, I don't see any reason why a pro wouldn't get the tone from this, you've got a master volume and individual volume controls for each pickup, so each pickup is giving you a slightly different tone and you can turn one off completely, you can have one half way up, you've got a split single coil and then you've got its own pickup as well there

 So you get that precision, say you're going from the 5th, 7th fret right up to the 12th and then 18th plus, you can really hit that note bang on. So it's not what you call a fast neck like a maple neck would be, yeah rosewood is known for its precision, so you're going from one end of the bass to the other, Bob's your uncle. Alright so I'm going to play you a little bit, so I've put everything on full because that's the way I prefer it, really big sound, you get a fantastic sound from this bass, a lot of sub, a lot of bottom end, you've got them high mids as well that really cut through, so yeah play with a plectrum, no effects whatsoever, straight into an amp. Alright so here we go

 So just for example, I shall turn the first one down completely, so that's down ok, now turn it up, so that's giving you a bit more bottom end, so if you didn't want so much bottom end, you just tail it off a little bit. Obviously I'm a guitarist, I'm playing with a plectrum, do you get a different tone when you're playing with your fingers? So maybe you're playing with your fingers, you want a bit more tone because the plectrum is obviously when it's hitting the strings, it's giving you a lot of tone, so whether you're playing with a plectrum or you're playing with your fingers, you will find a great tone in your tone with this bass guitar. So yeah, I'll tell you a bit about the wood as well, so it's older body, solid older body, the same as what you get in a standard Stratocaster and Telecasters as well. The neck is maple, like many many guitar necks out there, the fretboard is called sonocling, I think I pronounced that right, so sonocling is like rosewood, paefaro, that kind of thing and it feels the same as well

 Alright so I'm going to play you a little bit, so I've put everything on full because that's the way I prefer it, really big sound, you get a fantastic sound from this bass, a lot of sub, a lot of bottom end, you've got them high mids as well that really cut through, so yeah play with a plectrum, no effects whatsoever, straight into an amp. Alright so here we go. So so so so So there you go, as you can see I was having lots of fun then playing this and so could you because it's absolutely fantastic, it sounds amazing, I love that sound of a Yamaha bass, now even though this is quite entry level, it holds its own, it's a fantastic bass, the Yamaha TRB-X174, yep so there you go, it's available to buy right now, if you're local pop into the store, have a play. Yamaha TRBX174 - Rimmers Music

 It's as good as or better than some $900-$1,300 basses I've played. Definitely recommend. And I really don't understand why cheap basses are pushed on beginners: you're gonna need an instrument that makes you want to learn to play it. It's much harder to make a cheap bass sound good

 Sounds great. Records great. I'm running an Ashdown EB-Lite 12-220 EVO III Combo with a Digitech BP355 modeler/FX in the loop. Sounds great thru BP355s XLR outs to interface, and thru a Sennheiser e902 mic on the amp

 The low B string doesn't sound great. I think amps are very particular about being able to handle B strings or not. I might have to start looking at other amps. But I think

Exceptional for under $1,000

 The 174s are actually a really great, great little beginner base in terms of what they've got going for them. So these are a perfect base for anyone who's starting out or also looking you know say for a guitarist looking for a little studio base or something like that, a relatively inexpensive base. The TRBX series come in a variety of colors, here's a black and here's a blue one and they also come in a few other colors as well.  It's kind of a hybrid from the older TRB bases that I think originated it's in sort of the 80s that came out then and it's also you know got some of the characteristics of the the newer RBX series as well and let's hear what it sounds like. So pretty simple setting, you know pickup configuration on this guy, split coil closer to the neck and then you've got your single coil jazz style pickup towards the bridge, volume for each pickup and then an overall tone which you can blend. The 174s are actually a really great, great little beginner base in terms of what they've got going for them. Yamaha TRBX174 Electric Bass

 Nice weight and well balanced.   The neck is slightly chunky, with a nut width between a precision and jazz -.  very comfortable.  Very straight neck out of the box too

  I dropped the saddles down to my preferred height and was good to go.  No  truss rod tweaks needed, unlike my Fender P Bass and Squier PJ!   By far, the best $199.00 bass.  You will not be sorry

Best Budget Bass - Hands Down!

 We've got a JPUP in the rear and really solid tone controls to support the pickup system, volume, tone, tone. Output on this bass is fantastic, particularly given it's a passive instrument. Comes in a range of colours. The one I'm holding here is the Sunburst

 We've got the TRB style headstock, which you may recognise from the flagship TRB range. We've got a newly sculpted body. In terms of electronics, fantastic simple setup. We've got split pickup here, traditional P bass in the front

 We've also got black and a couple of metallic colours too, the red and dark blue. Look, this is a great bass for beginners, part-time players, students, that sort of thing. Again, quality always from Yamaha. Let's see how it sounds

Yamaha TRBX174 Bass Guitar

This bass plays and sounds quite nice, after a string change and setup. Intonation was great out of the box, but required truss adjustment, and the action was really high too. Over-all, for a beginner/intermediate player like myself, it was a good purchase, and I like it enough that it helps to inspire me to play and practice a lot.  My nit-picks: The finish on the bass I got is not so great

 This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3.5 to 4 stars from me because of the minor imperfections, but it's so fun to play, that I couldn't bring myself to return it, or rate it any lower.

  When I first plugged in the bass, I could hear some serious humming from the neck pickup. I plugged my amp into a few different outlets, to see if it was a bad ground, but it persisted until I tossed the junk battery that came with the bass out and put in a new one. This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3

 This bass is made in Indonesia. I was a little squirrelly, but the construction is top notch and I found nothing to complain about. I couldn't find any obvious flaws, and it looks, feels, and plays great. No cheap construction materials here
