Ibanez 2019 SR500E Bass Guitar

Or at least no longer a great deal. 4-5 years ago back when they were US$275 new they were steals, but now that they're $430 plus tax and shipping, they're no longer this amazing moneyball solution, they're at best a decent bass at a fair price. In my opinion if you've got $500 to spend on a bass I'd get a used Mexican Fender or Ibanez SR500, that's where the real value is at that price point.

So, I play guitar, for like 9 years now.

So I've been looking at two basses at &lt;500€, which are a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass, and a Sire Marcus Miller V5 Alder

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Ibanez vs Sire

the main reason to get a SR500 is I believe those are the cheapest Ibanez that have those sweet bartolini pickups. I have a 500 and it's great, I think if you get a used one in good condition and give it a proper setup it will make you very happy

Is there a noticeable difference in the two? 

I need to clarify that I am not a professional musician nor do I intend to become one. I just really like playing music as a hobby.

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably

Sounds Like Ben

 You can see there's angled at a 45-degree angle here. Now, I did notice that the saddles on the 434 and 234 are smaller than both what's available on the 734 and on the 2025X models. I'm going for a more traditional vibe here, so I think right now I actually prefer the smaller bridge and saddles on this bass. The pickups are now standard size and shape P&J pickups

 Now, I actually love the sound of the stock pickups, and I should note that the old pickups were something that I didn't love at first. I thought they sounded a little too thick, which makes it kind of hard to get that P-bass grind, and the bridge pickup was never as bright as I would have hoped. But when I started using it, especially on dance tracks, my appreciation for kind of the unique BB Sonic character really grew. The controls are neck volume, bridge pickup volume, and master tone, also different from the older model, which had volume, tone, and a three-way selector

 I'm going for a more traditional vibe here, so I think right now I actually prefer the smaller bridge and saddles on this bass. The pickups are now standard size and shape P&J pickups. This is something that I was really excited about with the possibility of upgrading the pickups. Maybe a set of Aguilars or even a set of DiMarzio DP-122s for more of like a retro style upgrade

 Hey, bass family! Today we're reviewing the Yamaha BB434 bass and comparing it to the prior generation of Yamaha broad bass models, namely this BB1025X 5-string. Both basses were made in their Indonesia factory. Now, I understand that the BB1025X was a higher priced item than the 434 and that it's a 5-string. But I wanted to get something smaller for the gigs I've been playing and wanted to check out the simpler end of Yamaha's line

Generally, Yamaha seems to be one of the better values out there as far as build quality and materials on their entry/mid-tier basses. After starting on an Ibanez miKro short-scale, I picked up a Yamaha BB434 at a price I couldn’t pass up and absolutely love everything about it. Before finding the BB434, I was seriously considering and almost bought a TRBX174EW.

 The only issue with the bass is that the J pickup is a bit noisy, but if you roll it down 1/4, the noise goes away.  Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the bass. I had a very small issue with the shipping that the seller, GearTree, was very quick to resolve to my satisfaction. Superb customer service

 I turn the p all the way up and j to about 7 with the tone up about 85%. You can play anything from Motown to rock. Very versatile.

I was looking for a relatively affordable bass with a classic look and vintage tone. I originally ordered a Squier Vintage Modified and could not have been more disappointed. Clanky. Even after a set up, the fret noise was unbearable

 Terribly disappointing for a Japanese custom shop bass. The sound from the pickups were not anything spectacular. And they are the same pickups you can get in the $750 BB734a. I ended up returning the second one and got the Kingpin BFR stingray and made the right choice
