Ibanez 2019 SR500E Bass Guitar

Or at least no longer a great deal. 4-5 years ago back when they were US$275 new they were steals, but now that they're $430 plus tax and shipping, they're no longer this amazing moneyball solution, they're at best a decent bass at a fair price. In my opinion if you've got $500 to spend on a bass I'd get a used Mexican Fender or Ibanez SR500, that's where the real value is at that price point.

So, I play guitar, for like 9 years now.

Aaand I wanna get into bass as well, buuut I'm on a pretty tight budget.

So I've been looking at two basses at &lt;500€, which are a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass, and a Sire Marcus Miller V5 Alder

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

On the plus side, it's comfortable, nice to play, good quality for the price. The preamp offers many possibilities once you've figured out the controls, and it also has a passive mode. The pickups work well in both mode, and they have 4 wires so if you know how to solder you can add switches to get more sound options.

Ibanez vs Sire

the main reason to get a SR500 is I believe those are the cheapest Ibanez that have those sweet bartolini pickups. I have a 500 and it's great, I think if you get a used one in good condition and give it a proper setup it will make you very happy

I prefer playing alternative and metal hence wanting a 5-string (I play other genres for practice but we all have that style that makes us happy). I love me some Ibanez and am trying to decide between the sr300 and sr500. As far as I can see they have the same features but the sr505 improved hardware. Is there a noticeable difference in the two? 

I need to clarify that I am not a professional musician nor do I intend to become one. I just really like playing music as a hobby.

Ibanez SR305 vs SR505: worth the extra$?

Ibanez is pretty lightweight. The SR series by Ibanez is a good way to go. I used to own an SR500 and it was a great bass. It’s a bass I certainly miss and if you can find a pre-owned one in good shape they tend to be priced pretty reasonably

 Check with your local dealer for pricing but this is most commonly found for around 649 Aussie dollary do's. Jumping into specs, we've got a mahogany body, a beautiful maple neck with a satin finish, a rosewood fretboard with perloid inlays, vintage style tuners and a steel bridge which allows the player to either string them through the top or through the body. I think having the option is really cool. Also a really small detail but I love the string tree on the headstock

 As I mentioned earlier the fretboard edges are rounded off which feels just beautiful. In the first generation of the Marcus Miller V3 bass it was just a regular flat fretboard so no rounding off. And finally the battery cover on the back used to be just a plastic cartridge but now it is a custom ash wood cover which does look pretty good. Now with that out of the way I'm really keen to have a jam so without much further ado let's see how it sounds

 Alright, let me know what you thought in the comments below. Now there are a world of tones that you can get out of the Sire Marcus Miller V3 Gen 2 bass but I didn't want this video to go for hours so I just chose a handful of my favourite tones to show you. But wow, a very very impressive set of tones that you can get from those active EQ controls. In saying that though I think it sounds equally as good using the passive controls which was really surprising

 I love that it captures the A string in there as well. And finally it has two Marcus Miller J Revolution single coil pickups. These are controlled by either a passive volume tone setup or an onboard 3 band EQ preamp. You might notice that there's a little toggle switch where you can go between the two

Marcus Miller Sire V3 Gen 2 Bass - Review & Demo

Without knowing how to play it or the sound I wanted, I was able to identify (at least) if it felt well on me in terms of weight and ergonomics, also if the strings on differents frets sounded good or distorted, plus warranty. Some Squier, Ibanez, Yamaha, Harley Benton, Cort and a Sire Marcus Miller V3 were the ones I was interested on.

 You have all that in a bass that's $369.99 and that's pretty crazy. Let's check out these pickups and this preamp in a bit more detail. Let's check out this bass in passive mode

 I like how the pull pieces on the pickups are engraved a little bit and aren't just a flat metallic magnetic surface. Now let's talk about this preamp. Here's what you got to work with. Your master volume, your blend, your tone control, passive tone

 The Sire V3, I'm going to rate this four claws out of five. Even though its glaring weak point is the hardware, I feel like this awesome preamp and really solid pickups make this an extremely great value for $369 shipped. Compared to our $400 Mexican P bass, we're getting a lot more bang for our buck here. Well, that's it for this video

 With the tuners, these are generally not that great in terms of quality. I actually had a really hard time getting this tuned up precisely. It was hard to dial in my tuning with precision as the tuners would either jump way too high or way too low with a turn. The bridge is also a bit of a bummer

Opinions on the Squire Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass?

 And one thing I fear is that people are going to look at this and then look at maybe a more expensive Squier Classic 5 that doesn't have the crazy preamp going on and might be drawn to that for its simplicity. When in my opinion, the build quality and quality control is much better with the sires. So what am I going to rate the sire V3? I'm going to go ahead and rate this bass four claws out of five, and I'm going to stand by my original rating. And that is because at $369, this is just a great deal

 I just want to make note that these tuners are just simply awful to deal with. Now let's go ahead and turn this base around real quick. Around back, you can see the string ferrules for the string through body option. So I have restrung this base with MJC iron works nickel plated stainless steel strings strung through the body

 Featuring a mahogany body, finished in this beautiful looking light blue, we have a black pickguard with truss rod access. I like having that at the body versus at the headstock, and we also have Sire's famed preamp paired with their pickups. Now this preamp, when you're looking down at it on a jazz bass control plate, can get confusing. There are seven different knobs there and a switch, so there's a lot to learn
