Really hate that 13&quot; 1600 x 900 screen - it is just too small after 15.4&quot; on HP, and I also have to run fonts on 150%. Still taking my time to hook it up as my main rig through dock and dual monitors. Mostly using it now through Remote Desktop when I need Win 7 &#x2F; Visual Studio 2013

Ask HN: What's the hardware (read: laptop) that has lasted you the most?

The hp pavilion isn't a good buy, very outdated and underpowered. The Lenovo is much better, more modern and more powerful, and importantly has a decent sized SSD rather than hard drive, this will make the computer much faster just on its own, and you can always add a hard drive for more storage for very cheap(not sure about US prices bit could get a good sized one for £60 in the UK).

 

My son will be graduating from High School in May 2021.  He is interested in going to college to learn video editing (He is familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro) like a course offered at Full Sail in Orlando Florida.  He also likes to live stream while he is playing on his PC, XBox, or Nintendo Switch.

His current system is a DELL [Inspiron 3252 Specifications](https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-3252-small-desktop_reference%20guide_en-us.pdf) but because it is old and he has used it for the activities mentioned above and his school work it lags a lot.

Buy or Build PC for son interested in video editing and live streaming?

Battery life will last you 8-10 hours which is amazing so you don't have to be near a socket every hour. Performance is amazing on this laptop. With its powerful processor, you will have no problem when web browsing, multi-tasking, and programming.

I only hit one real disappointment during my testing period, which was the speakers. The sound quality is not great, and the bass is particularly weak. There was some distortion that wasn’t a huge problem — I could only hear it if I was leaning close to the laptop — but also didn’t go away until the volume was below 50 percent. You can swap between audio presets in Bang & Olufsen’s audio control center for music, movies, and voice, but they didn’t make much of a difference

 The entire Ryzen 5000 line is fast.Having raved about the 1165G7-powered Spectre x360 14 not too long ago, I think the Aero was about on par with that machine in everyday use. It blew through my typical workload of around a dozen Chrome tabs with Slacking, Spotify streaming, and Zoom calls over top with no issues. But the battery life — AMD’s true strength — is the real standout here

Yeah its actually one of the best deals considering performance per dollar so it's a great choice for gamers looking for budget gaming laptop...I ordered one hopefully it arrives in a few days

A5 with AMD 6 core at the same price is also coming soon, that would be even better.


Gigabyte G5 with 3060 and 6 core Intel at $1099!! Gizmosliptech unboxed one today and performance exceeds 2070 (non super) MaxP laptops (8200+ Timespy). IMO that’s incredible performance per dollar right now.

I found a laptop (HP Pavilion Gaming 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop (Ryzen 5-4600H/8GB/1TB HDD + 256GB SSD/Windows 10/144Hz/NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB/Shadow Black), 15-ec1048AX)

Does anybody have an experience using this laptop because I am trying to buy it in a week or so.

6" display. This combination should be pretty solid for modern games at medium-high settings 1080p.

I am searching for a Windows 10 or 8 with decent graphics card. I need it to play gta 5. I would love the best specs in this price range.

 The screen is pretty nice as well. Gets more than bright enough for every indoor situation I've thrown at it and it's sharp enough. However, I have yet to take it outside (and I don't plan on it), so I don't know if it gets bright enough to overcome direct sunlight. The IO array should be alright for most people

 They're not insanely bassy but they're also not super tinny. They're plenty loud and easy to hear in most situations, but occasionally I do find myself using a Chrome extension to force the volume louder on softer YouTube videos, so keep that in mind. The only thing I can really complain about is battery life. It's not great

In my opinion, a great laptop for the price.

) The fan can be heard but it’s not so annoying and the way they setup up the fan makes it that the laptop doesn’t really burn up. If there’s any issues it would that sometimes it doesn’t pick up the internets signal which can be a bit annoying but not so much I want to return it, and it’s rather heavy, so traveling with it would probably break your back.
