Hamilton Khaki King vs Rolex Datejust

10 years ago if you would have told me if I would be in love with a two tone Rolex Datejust I would have laughed!. Fast forward to 2021 and here we are with this beauty strapped to my wrist. I had been considering picking up a piece with some gold in it and was drawn to the classic Datejust with the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I stopped by my dealer to inquire and they happened to have this configuration with the newly released fluted motif dial and boy is it a looker!

That being said, I’m fairly vain (despite my best efforts) and I bought myself this Hamilton Khaki King II to commemorate my second anniversary of sobriety. I don’t know a ton about watches but after some research I decided to spring for this as it seemed commonly touted as a decent automatic. So far, I really enjoy the way it wears, and generally everything about it aside from one major quirk: no AR coating on the sapphire dome.

That said, I've worn the watch daily for over a year and have known no compromise in its performance. I appreciate the American heritage, the Swiss manufacturing, and the casual elegance. It's also very practical to have both day and date complications. This is a great watch for the money

The Datejust is such a versatile piece, as it’s lowkey enough not to be mixed with the Submariner gang, but it’s robust enough to play in the same league. Its timelessness is what keeps me from acquiring new watches, the design just works! You can work in the garden, wash the dishes or dress it up with a suit, it’s always right. Although I love the blue dials on Rolexes, I must say the white dial is just more versatile when it comes to day to day use.

I like the features on the watch very much, and wore it happily for the first day. The next morning, it didn't restart. So there was, at least, a problem with the power reserve; it had been only 6 hours. I carefully moved it to rewind, which did nothing, and only with a gentle tap would the movement start up

I had not seen this particular model at other stores and ended up pulling the trigger to buy it. I loved the sharp contrast in the dial and indexes; really was the selling point for me.
