What the Gl83a has that any TN doesn't is the viewing angles and a fairly smooth screen coating. I'm a big fan of the Gigabyte G27QC, I think that and the M27Q are two of the best monitors around before getting into flagship G7 & AW2721D territory.

I’m just starting out in competitive gaming, mainly sim racing, and have been looking at monitors to replace my run-of-the-mill VA Sceptre. Like I said, I’m primarily a sim racer, but I also need it to double as a school-from-home monitor. I play on Xbox only at the moment, but will make the jump to PC in about 8-12 months. I am completely overwhelmed with what monitor you go for, but I have found a few decent contenders. Here they are:

First Proper Gaming Monitor Purchase

For a multimedia usage a VA monitor would have better/darker blacks and overall better picture quality, so I would buy Gigabyte G27QC. IPS is fine overall but will be very annoying in watching movies, IPS glow and poor contrast will ruin your experience in movies, at least I was annoyed with my IPS, then I switched to a VA and Im happy.

Hi all, bit frustrated searching for a monitor and all the numbers/letters are starting to blend together so I thought I'd come here for a bit of advice.

First off, what's more of a priority for me I guess would be rich vibrant colours and true/dark blacks, bit of a stickler for image quality and would love something that pops with colour/vibrance. I do game also on Xbox Series X but will be using it on my pc as well (Ryzen 5 5600x - EVGA GTX 1650). 

I've just about narrowed it down to three monitors:

- LG Ultragear 32GN600 32" QHD 2560X1440

- Gigabyte G27QC 27" WQHD 2560X1440 (I have seen some reports of bleeding backlight which would kill it for me, I don't know if anyone can confirm) 

- Samsung C27JG50 27" WQHD 2560X1440 

Also considering the LG 27UL500 27" 3480X2160 even though it's only 60hz and 5ms, it does sound like clarity and quality is top notch. 

One last thing, would I be able to get 120hz or more with my Xbox considering it only uses HDMI and not a display port? 

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! 🙏

Now, I've been using this monitor for about a week now to play games under my office, and I've given it a good run to see if it's any good for gaming. When we stream, we actually use a panel that's pretty similar to this, it's the CV27Q, which on paper is pretty similar, but are they that similar?  I've tested a whole load of 4040p 144Hz displays including a number of IPS options including Gigabyte's own FI27Q-P and the current reigning champion, the VG27UP from Acer. So how does this one, also from Gigabyte but their more budget oriented line, hold up? Well, let's find out. But first, if you haven't already, consider subscribing for more videos like this one every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And on paper, this stacks up really well

Gigabyte G27Q Review - Cheap 1440p 144Hz IPS - TechteamGB

 Contrast ratio is strong and remains one of the key reasons you might want to consider a VA panel over an IPS panel. The G27QC has three times the contrast of a mid-range IPS like the ViewSonic VX27582KPMHD. It doesn't get as high as the G32QC but still delivers a good ratio with deeper blacks for an LCD. Unfortunately my G27QC unit had subpar uniformity

 And just quickly on the refresh rate features, we do get 165 Hertz here maximum, which is a small upgrade on 144 Hertz that is often the maximum on offer in this price category. Adaptive sync is present here with Gigabyte listing it as AMD FreeSync premium certified, as well as G-Sync compatible ready. This is somewhat misleading as the G27QC is not currently G-Sync compatible, it's just ready to receive that certification. However, it still works fine with Nvidia GPUs, you just have to enable the G-Sync checkbox in the Nvidia control panel

 We rarely get this sort of opportunity. So I think there will be some interesting lessons come the conclusion of this video. And just quickly on the refresh rate features, we do get 165 Hertz here maximum, which is a small upgrade on 144 Hertz that is often the maximum on offer in this price category. Adaptive sync is present here with Gigabyte listing it as AMD FreeSync premium certified, as well as G-Sync compatible ready

 The 32 inch can push above 400 nits from a 350 nit brightness rating, the 27 inch hits 320 nits from a 250 nit rating. Minimum brightness is also mediocre at 73 nits. The G27QC has three times the contrast of a mid-range IPS like the ViewSonic VX27582KPMHD

The best 1440p gaming monitor under $500 that we've tested is the Gigabyte M27Q. This versatile model sports a 27 inch screen that provides incredible immersion in games and has great features. It has an IPS panel with wide viewing angles so that images don't look washed out when viewed from the side. It gets very bright to combat glare, but it's not the most ideal for dark rooms as its low contrast ratio causes blacks to appear gray.

Gaming-wise, it delivers an impressively smooth and responsive experience thanks to its 170Hz refresh rate and excellent response time. Images look clear in fast-moving scenes, and it has both FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility to reduce screen tearing. The many extra features are helpful if you're a streamer or multi-tasker. It has Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes that let you display signals from two input sources simultaneously, and you can control both devices with one set of peripherals with its integrated KVM switch. It also has a USB-C port, but the power delivery is limited to 10 W.

If you plan on using the monitor for work, you should know that it uses a BGR sub-pixel structure. It doesn't affect picture quality, but it causes blurry text in some applications. It's a versatile 1440p monitor that's impressive for gaming and good for office use if you want something cheaper than the Dell S2722QC and don't mind compromising on the resolution. It has a native 170Hz refresh rate with native FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility.

Motion looks smooth thanks to its quick response time, and it also has a backlight strobing feature to reduce persistence blur, but it creates image duplication. Unfortunately, the main downside to this monitor is that it uses a BGR subpixel layout instead of the RGB that most monitors have. This affects text clarity in programs that don't support it, but it doesn't affect the picture quality in games.

The best office monitor for content creators is the Gigabyte M27Q. It's a versatile monitor with a 27 inch screen and 1440p resolution that uses an IPS panel with wide viewing angles, meaning that images remain accurate when viewed off-center, great for showing your work to coworkers and clients. Visibility isn't an issue even in the brightest environments, but like most IPS panels, it's not a good choice for dark rooms due to its mediocre contrast ratio.

While some people are bothered by it, others don't see it. You can try flipping the screen upside down to get an RGB subpixel layout, but that increases the input lag. Unless its BGR subpixel layout is a dealbreaker, this is a feature-rich option worth checking out.

The best budget monitor for photo editing is the Gigabyte M27Q. It's a solid all-around option with great performance for content creators, and it has many of the same productivity features as the Gigabyte M34WQ. It's well-built with a sturdy plastic body, but its stand doesn't offer the best ergonomic adjustments.

It offers great value for its price, especially for photo and video editors. It has near-perfect coverage of the Adobe RGB color space and, combined with its excellent out-of-the-box accuracy, it displays colors as they should appear. It also has incredible gradient handling, meaning you won't see any banding while photo editing. If you want to use it in a well-lit room, visibility won't be an issue because it has high peak brightness and decent reflection handling.

Sadly, it uses a BGR subpixel layout instead of the typical RGB layout found on most monitors. Although this doesn't directly affect text clarity, not all programs support BGR subpixel layout, meaning some text and images won't look as sharp in certain programs. Also, because it has a lower 1440p resolution, the overall text clarity is only decent, so some text looks a bit blurry. Overall, if you're on the market for the best budget monitor for photo editing, you should enjoy this one.

The best 2k monitor in the budget category we've tested is the Gigabyte M27Q. It's an excellent gaming monitor with a 27 inch screen, resulting in decent text clarity and a more immersive gaming experience than 1080p models. It has a fast refresh rate and great gaming features, including FreeSync variable refresh rate support and low input lag, for a responsive gaming experience. Despite the low price, it has an exceptional response time, delivering clear text with no overshoot.

It's a versatile monitor with many additional features, including Picture-in-Picture/Picture-by-Picture support, meaning you can view two sources at once. It has a built-in USB hub with USB-C connectivity and a unique KVM feature that lets you control two sources with one set of keyboard and mouse. Its USB-C port even supports power delivery, but sadly, it's not enough power to charge your laptop or even significantly extend its battery life.

Unfortunately, it uses a BGR subpixel layout, which isn't ideal. Although this doesn't cause any issues with movies or games, it causes text issues in some Windows programs. It's a 27 inch IPS model with a 1440p resolution and wide viewing angles, which is great for sharing content with others as images remain accurate when viewing off-center. It has decent reflection handling and great peak brightness, meaning visibility won't be an issue even in bright, sunny rooms. However, it isn't ideal for dark room viewing because it has a mediocre contrast ratio that makes blacks appear gray.

It has full sRGB coverage, the color space used in most web content, and the accuracy is outstanding out of the box, so you get accurate, life-like colors. It has an impressive HDR color gamut, but unfortunately, it doesn't get quite bright enough to deliver a true HDR experience. It has an exceptional response time that results in clear images in fast-moving scenes and a backlight-strobing feature to further improve motion clarity with fast-moving objects.

Sadly, the stand only allows for height and tilt adjustments; however, it can be VESA-mounted if you need swivel adjustment or pivot to portrait mode. It has Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes, a KVM feature that lets you control devices with one set of keyboard and mouse, and a USB-C port that supports Display Port Alt Mode. The backlight is flicker-free, and there's also a blue light filter to help reduce eye strain. Overall, it's a great and versatile monitor that should please most people.

The Gigabyte M27Q is the best budget FreeSync monitor if you want something with a larger 27 inch screen. It also has a higher 1440p resolution than the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx, so it delivers sharper images due to the increased pixel density. It has a slightly higher 170Hz refresh rate and it's excellent for gaming, and it's versatile if you want to use it for other uses.

The M27Q has great motion handling as the response time is quick at its max refresh and at lower refresh rates. It also has an optional backlight strobing that works at the same time as the VRR feature, but there are a few bugs and it's only suggested to use if the frame rate of your game is consistently high. Also, input lag isn't an issue as you won't notice any delay while gaming. The picture quality is great as it has excellent out-of-the-box accuracy and visibility isn't an issue in well-lit rooms because it gets bright enough to fight glare and has decent reflection handling.

Sadly, the main downside to this monitor is that its panel uses a BGR subpixel layout. This doesn't directly impact the overall picture quality, but it affects the text clarity in programs that don't support the BGR subpixel layout, so some text looks blurry. If this doesn't bother you, then it's the best FreeSync budget monitor we've tested in a 27 inch size.

The best 1440p gaming monitor under $300 that we've tested is the Gigabyte M27Q. It's a 27 inch monitor that delivers an amazingly smooth gaming experience.
