So I've been planning a camping trip in my 2008 Fit Sport for quite sometime. I already tried it once just to try things out and discovered some issues. The main concern is bedding. I used an air mattress last time and I really tried to get the dimensions right so it would fit with the back seats folded down, and it barely fits. The bigger issue is the fact that the air mattress got a hole from something, I'm not sure what. But to remedy this issue, I'm thinking of using just a plain foam mattress topper. I could roll it up and unroll it when I want to use it, but then there's the issue of space. Would anyone happen to know of a foam mattress that is compactible, such as vacuum packed, or any method like that?

Car Camping Bedding

If car camping, the Exped MegaMat.  It has a very high R value (insulates you from the ground) and is by far the most comfortable sleeping pad out there.  Well worth the price.

I’m a total noob to the camping world, but desperately missing hiking and kayaking since becoming ill. Camping seems to be a good way to get me back in the woods in a way that would be good for my body. Would love any and all tips!

Chronic illness gal wondering: What is your favorite brand of tent AND sleeping pads/bags for a family of 3? We’re in Tennessee and would mostly be camping in the fall and spring or the mild winter weeks. Big no to summer camping here 🥵

This is a car camping mattress, not a backpacking mattress. The size is simply too bulky to backpack. However, for heavier camping or overnight guests at home it is far superior to any standard inflatable camping-style mattress. The self-inflating foam does give it good insulating properties and its 4 inch thickness means you can sleep on your side

 The only real con is that it's about $100 too expensive IMHO.  Durability is unknown at this point, although it stayed fully inflated for its first use of two consecutive nights.

 One thing about the Megamat DUOs is they have a VERY large pack size and are quite heavy. The other thing about the Megamat is their very high R values can be a bit overwhelming in hot weather, so for hot clinates you might want to consider the megamat 7 instead of the Megamat 10 or 15. But lately I have been wanting to spend more time in nature and just finally just made reservation on 6/6-6/8 at local camp spot here in Southern Arizona.
I do plan to rent some stuff from the local university and borrow some stuff from my dad. But what I really want is to invest in first a good sleeping pad first. I also want to use it as a guest bed when I let my relatives and take my bed. I plan to do mostly car camping, so weight shouldn't be an issue.
It seems that EXPED is mentioned the most to be as one of the more comfortable pad. But what I am struggling with is what the size to get. I know I need to get at least the 30 inch width but I wonder if getting a medium or the LW medium would be a good idea or if it would be just to much.  I am an active sleeper and sleep on my side in kind of a military sprawl position and toss turn. I would also like to take my pillows. 
I would appreciate any thoughts any one would have.

I am crazy to get a Exped duo for just me?

To stay within budget you are looking at getting a used REI Kingdom, Marmot Limestone, Marmot Halo, Big Agnes Bunk House/Mad House/Dog House or Nemo Wagontop. 

We camp one to two times a year and would love to go more. We've been borrowing tents from family and friends and were considering upgrading to a pop up camper but cannot find any decently priced in our area. 

We need a new tent for sure and a new sleep setup, we currently use a queen blow up but wake up in pain. My husband isn't a huge fan of the sleeping in the tent part of camping but does it for me and I'd like to make it more comfortable for him. 

The main things he doesn't like are waking up damp and cold, complicated setups and being woken up early from the light. It also can get pretty crowded in the tent as we have a 2.5 year old and 5 year old and tend to bring a lot of stuff. 

Ideal total budget for new tent and sleeping solution would be around $500. 

Possibly relevant information
We camp mainly in Summer but I'd love to do an early or mid fall trip too. We mainly camp in MI and it can be rainy and windy on the drop of a dime (the last tent we borrowed collapsed with us inside during a rain storm) 
We drive to our campsites so I'm not concerned about weight.

New camping setup for a family of 4

 If you're looking for excellent comfort, and size/weight aren't a concern on your adventure, I highly recommend the MegaMat 10.

 The features of the mat, storage bag, and mini pump make using the mat very user friendly. The mat self inflates in 10-15 minutes and it only takes a couple pumps with the included mini pump to firmly inflate the mat. The fill valve makes it super easy to customize the firmness once you're on the mat. Deflating, rolling, and storing the mat in the bag are very easy and frustration free

Bed comfort in a roll up mat!

 This baby has never met it's match. slow to blow up perhaps? who cares! You can sleep on vesicular basalt or highly irregular weathered granite and think you are in the Hilton. Buy it, they are getting harder to find.

 It is big but very light and convenient. I have used quite a few of Exped's products. 5 mats and at least 3 bags. I have never been disappointed

The Therm-a-Rest Z Lite SOL has seemingly been on the market since the Stone Age. Many people with some exposure to the outdoors will be familiar with this pad or one extremely similar to it. While the Z Lite simply does not offer the high level of comfort most air pads do, it has some redeeming features that shouldn't be ignored. The Z Lite is an excellent choice for those wanting to add a bit of versatility to their arsenal of camping equipment.
However, it is one of the least packable pads we have tested and is miserably uncomfortable on hard surfaces, especially compared to the other options we feature here. The closed-cell foam definitely won't pop, but it also takes up a lot of space for how little comfort it actually provides. If you're seeking high value, outstanding durability, and reliability on the trail, this is an excellent choice.

 The hipster kids from the outdoor shop in my town raved. I'm trying to be cool (do kids say cool, anymore?), so obviously, this is the camping pad for me, I thought. I tried it out this weekend camping (it's early June, and the nights here get to the high 50's/low 60's, so being warm is still necessary), and was disappointed. Where did I go wrong, you ask? Probably in thinking I could tackle camping like I'm still 20, which I am decidedly not

 So the good, it definitely reflected heat and kept me warm. I tested before the trip on my living room floor with the AC blasting, and I was sweating within minutes. In that sense, it is kind of a miracle since I'm always cold. I might actually put this in my bed in the winter

40 yo not 20 anymore - needs softer ground cover

 Best foam mat I've owned.  Pros: durable, very easy to unfold, good r value ( 2.7 I believe ), comfortable compared to other foam mats, easy to fold, can be used as a seating pad, don;t need to worry about spikes and ground surface, smells good, only mat I would use if I had to choose one, considering durability and versatility.  Cons: not as comfortable as inflated ones but we shouldn't be comparing these two anyways, doesn't pack as small as inflatable ones but yeah, once again, not a fair comparison

Might be the best in foam mats

. but it’s reliable, which to me is it’s selling point. Those air mattresses are definitely more comfortable, but if they get a leak it can really mess up a good nights sleep after hiking on the trail all day. I would buy this pad again, and I probably will order some for my kids
