 And speaking of adjustments, this is easily one of the most versatile projectors I've ever reviewed on the channel. Not only does it have a motorized lens as I mentioned, but it allows huge vertical and horizontal lens shift adjustments. So for instance, you could technically put this projector in the back corner of your room and use horizontal lens shift to move the image over to the screen without using Keystone. and it offers so much vertical Lin shift that you don't even have to mount it to the ceiling

 and going back to the features of this projector, this brings me to my next point which is Hdmi Cec. So this projector has one of the best implementations of Hdmi Cec that I've seen on a projector and by best implementation I mean that it simply has it and it works. I Don't know why every projector doesn't have this, considering how convenient it is. Okay, so now I know you're probably thinking I'm an Epson fanboy now and that this projector doesn't have any flaws

 all right. As far as ports on the back, you're gonna have an optical HDMI port so that's basically going to be a USB port that you're gonna use if you're using an optical cable. You also get two HDMI 2.0 ports which is really nice so it now supports 4k HDR at 60 frames per second, a USB type a port that you can use for power service port, a land port that can be used to control the projector remotely, a VGA port Rs-232 and a 12-volt trigger

 in a box you get a QuickStart guide, a backlit remote, batteries, a power cord, and of course the projector. and I Do have to say that I like the design of this projector. the only thing I'd like to change is that it be black instead of white but you have to spend another thousand dollars for the 60 50 you betta get a black body on the front. You have your lens IR sensor and your vents and what's nice is that the lens has a built-in motorized lens cover that automatically opens and closes when you turn the projector on or off

 So one thing that I didn't like about the auto iris on some of the DLP projectors was that the lamp dimming was too slow and it was really noticeable. But the auto iris on this projector was fast enough that I didn't find it too distracting. and going back to the features of this projector, this brings me to my next point which is Hdmi Cec. So this projector has one of the best implementations of Hdmi Cec that I've seen on a projector and by best implementation I mean that it simply has it and it works

This is a great room, but don't break the bank.  u/biciklanto had the right idea with his comment. 

Just for context/consideration, I am doing a reno in my house and putting in a *budget* home theater. Gave myself a budget of \~$2k for audio and \~2k for visual. For that, will I get a *truly showstopping* home theater? No. But will it be enough to impress any and all of my friends and provide endless hours of entertainment for me and my family? Hell yeah. 

There's lots of ratings sites and opinionated people online, but the best advice I can give is to *build a setup that gives* ***YOU*** *what you want/need.* Don't build something for the keyboard warriors or AV salesmen that costs more than you want. Past a certain level of investment, and the differences in quality with sound can *literally* be difficult for most to hear. And yet, for that barely-perceptible difference, you might pay an extra grand. Crazy. 

Anyway, here's what I went with:

* Due to my room size and intended use (with pretty frequent ambient light), I went with a 75" 4k TV instead of a projector. With your room, go projector. I can't weigh in on that. 
* Because I've got young kids I went with an in-wall setup (nothing for them to knock over or tamper with). 
* In wall left and right -  Monolith THX-365IW
* In wall Center - Monolith THX-LCR
* Receiver - Denon AVR-X2600H 
* Saving up for a decent subwoofer

Note: this is a 3.1 system, so not "surround sound", but it's a 10ft room and a 3.1 setup will *work for me* and provide plenty of clear audio. I also installed in-wall speaker cable that will enable me to upgrade to full surround in subsequent years. You CAN phase investment in home theater stuff! 

Best of luck. All this detail can be super overwhelming - don't make any snap decisions.

I would probably spend a little more and go with: 

- JBL Synthesis SCL-6 ($1,500 ea.) In-wall L/C/R behind an A/T screen to keep it looking nice and tidy (and very high performance). Cheap out a bit on overheads and surrounds if required (but not too much). Monolith THX in-walls are a great alternative to JBL Synthesis for a low cost in-wall option.

- Denon AVR-X 3700 would be a good place to start (eventually adding a Monolith amp if you think you need more power)

- Rythmik, SVS, Monolith subwoofers (X2) 

- Epson and Optoma make pretty decent projectors at good price points. The JVC is definitely better though. 

Lots of options out there, I just think a dedicated room like that is better off with hidden speakers. Also paint the ceiling matte black for increased performance.

Given the screen is wide, I’d go with a jvc and anamorphic lens, before I’d go with the Sony.  Sony panels lose contrast over time too.

New house came with a theater room minus speakers and projector

I recently picked up the Epson 5050ub and couldn't be happier with it. Outside of your listed budget range but lower models like 3200/3800 should offer similar performance. I coupled mine with an Amazon fire Cube with dual Echo Studio speakers and the combination is the perfect setup for outdoor movie nights.

One special request is to have a projector with Bluetooth audio output built in (the audio system is just a big BT speaker under the screen).  I realize I can do this with a BT audio dongle and pretty much any projector, but it would be a nicety for it to be built into the projector to simplify setup/teardown.

Recommendation for backyard movie night

 This is your IR thing right here so this will catch it from the bottom as you're kind of using the remote and you have your Kensington lock there and then on the side and here on the side we have our hidden panel which you've ever been doing adjustments. You have easy access to all the main menu features so you can mouse around, find the source and do those kind of things if you need to. but more than likely you'll never do that because the remote is fantastic. This is one of my favorite things

 USBs One of these is a firmware and service port. We have our land or network capabilities so if you want to rent directly, you have your Pc inputs and then your Rs-232 controls and then your 12-volt triggers which will operate your screen and turn it on. This is your IR thing right here so this will catch it from the bottom as you're kind of using the remote and you have your Kensington lock there and then on the side and here on the side we have our hidden panel which you've ever been doing adjustments. You have easy access to all the main menu features so you can mouse around, find the source and do those kind of things if you need to

 It also helps a lot with 3d now. I Know a lot of people have kind of fallen away from 3d, but there's still a lot of connoisseurs that love 3d have great Blu-rays with 3d and so you want to be able to watch those going forward. That Extra Hunter Lumens makes a big difference in your 3d image and the brightness there. It also helps a ton with the HDR and the HDR Improvements in this unit are really what is worth considering this uniform

 Though it is pricey, it is good quality and the money is not wasted Also the model we bought came with a wireless HDMI that made it easier to setup, and after figuring out the setup, it works well. The remote control works well, and was easy to adjust the image size and position.

 We did just hit that 10,000 mark which is amazing, but again, we don't stop at 10,000 We don't stop at a hundred thousand. We're trying to take this thing all the way, so please subscribe if you're interested in this stuff. And without further ado, let's jump into the review of the Epson 50/50 UB So the first thing I want to talk about is really, just like you know, the size of this thing, the size, the weight in just the space you need in a room to really make this work. Today's video has been kind of a long time coming, but I've been wanting to do some tests I've been wanting to see a lot of different features and play with some calibration and so yes, I'm talking about my projector. the Epson 50-50 UB 4k Pro Cinema Projector I've had it now for about a month I'd say maybe a little longer than that, maybe six weeks. So I've gotten the chance to watch a lot of different types of movies on it, play around with the settings, get it calibrated, get everything set up, and I'm at a point where I'm comfortable enough to do an official review of that today

Great projector, but got some bugs

  So far I've just tried it inside the house. This is what I think so far: Pro: + I'm satisfied with the brightness (for me enough to watch something inside, on a wall, with curtains open or brighter lights on) (I haven't tried outside yet but that will be afternoon/night when I do, so it should be fine)  + Built-in Android TV/Connectivity I like so far (I used 1TB external SSD to play videos and tried different streaming apps) (** some limitations)  + I'm happy with the size  + Sound: I like the built in sound for the size and the portability it gives, it might sound odd if the projector is not placed in front or behind you as the sound would come from one side..

 You might not consider this as portable but most of the "more portable/batteries built in" projectors are just not bright enough. I'll use a battery pack that will provide a few hours of use.  So far I've just tried it inside the house. Update... hmmm

Image brightness after adjustment was easily enough to light up a 90-inch, 1.0-gain screen both in a dark room and in low levels of ambient light. The Horizon was also bright enough to produce a highly watchable image on an 80-inch, 1.0 gain screen in a family room during daytime

The Horizon requires manual switching between 2D and 3D modes, but it handled 3D reasonably well otherwise. In my tests using DLP-Link glasses, I didn't see any crosstalk, and 3D-related motion artifacts were within the typical range for current-generation 3D projectors.

 Not surprisingly, the Horizon Pro's higher resolution pays off in a sharper picture with more detail in bright scenes. In dark scenes, however, the cheaper Horizon did a better job holding shadow detail in our tests. Depending on what you watch most often, you may pick either one as having the better image overall.

Xgimi Horizon Review

  Review edited 3/24/2022: Rather than also buying the Xgimi accessory streaming dongle (with Android TV os) to easily stream netflix, recommend getting an Amazon Fire Stick 4k or Amazon Fire Stick 4k Max with the Xgimi Horizon to provide more streaming options. With the Fire Stick, one can easily install the Netflix app. Also, now that Apple TV+ streaming service is being disabled (by Apple) on Android TV, a Fire Stick works around that issue by supporting the Apple TV+ app.

 Note that Xgimi offers a discounted stand (when purchased at the same time as the Xgimi Horizon) that makes it easier to physically set the projector at the angle that works best for your location.  I read several comparisons before deciding to get the Horizon rather than the Horizon Pro (google “xgimi horizon vs horizon pro”). I decided based on what I read that the Horizon would work well for me. I’ve been very happy with the Horizon and recommend considering it rather than automatically spending more money on the Horizon Pro
