I picked these up local for $1k and they sound amazing. I've been drooling over these speakers for a year and I had set a side enough money to aquire a pair. There's so much clarity and clear subtlety that I've found myself turning down the volume sometimes, and the bass has much more presence and impact than the elac's that im realizing just how bloated they were in the low-end.

 By "analog" I include such impressions as cymbal sound combining realistic metallic impact followed by a shimmering falloff, relaxed and silky soft passages, weighty and impactful drum strikes, clarity and separation of parts in loud ensemble passages (and I could ramble on). In short, just enjoyable music playback without distortions or distractions. After just a few album sides, I can already tell that the XPS-1 is no compromise, but rather an optimization. To my LP collection of some 50 years, welcome back to regular play!

 I recently noted that Emotiva offers this XPS-1 phono preamp, kind of a minimalist add-on to the DC-1 to adapt its unbalanced analog input to phono. (The DC-1 features an all-analog path from the analog input to the outputs.)  Initial listening, after just a one-hour warm-up (not yet a break-in), has been very impressive. The sound is definitely "analog" and a clear step up from any of the digital sources that I usually listen to

Minimalist, modern electronic design makes for beautiful sound

 Serious midrange suck out. Also had a serious issue blocking RF. Could easily hear a local radio station through it, but I live close to that tower and it did not exhibit that issue at my friends house. Overall the emotiva does so much right I will give up some detail for the incredible things it does to soundstage and fun factor

Side note: the db gain output is seriously underrated

 The MS V90 was the most "even" of the bunch- perhaps a little more midrange detail but not as compelling as the Emotiva. The Schiit mani just did not get along with my system so I hesitate to talk smack about it - especially since dealing with the schiit company was very easy - however for me it was loose boomy bass and screeching treble. Serious midrange suck out. Also had a serious issue blocking RF

 It's possible that I just got the two bad units Emotiva made this year, but I suspect this is more a fundamental problem with their wall wart powering system for this unit (Wall warts always a bad idea for any piece of supposedly fine audio gear!) Oh, and by the way, the turntable connected to the units was a Thorens TD 190-2 that works perfectly well with the phono ART preamp I had been using.

I am returning the 2nd one of these units I have taken delivery on this month from Amazon. The first one was defective out of the box. The power supply specifically was defective causing the unit to surge on and off in one second or so pulses. Note: I am a musician and had these items in a studio, plugged into a pro level power conditioner along with every other piece of equipment I have: compressors, preamps, audio interface, etc

Beware power supply for this unit. Two in a row defective.

Plenty of clean gain and more adjustment than anything else in the price range. Wish it had a power switch and the form factor makes placement really awkward, but I'm ok with those compromises considering the sound. I compared it to several other budget stages, I thought the U-turn was just as good for MM cartridges and preference differed based on the specific cartridge pairing, but nothing comes even close for MC cartridges. I think this and a Denon 103 for around $300 total here on Amazon is the best budget combo currently available, certainly that I have heard for a similar price

 Low output to high output, MC OR MM. And 4 levels of impedance. I usually keep it at 47 kohm. But depending out the compliance of your cartridge the 100 kohm or even higher works well

 Or you will get a humming noise.  I now hear crystal clear audio and a happy customer. :)  this company fails to disappoint.

And they did that by adding in a second gain stage, and we're able to do that without adding any additional distortion, which is actually a pretty big achievement to come up 5 decibels with no other added distortion

 Featuring a new way of building the grounding circuit, it has actually even further lowered the distortion while raising the signal to noise ratio. So not only have we gotten an extra 5 decibels of gain, we've actually gotten less distortion and more signal to noise. For a product that's going to be virtually the same price, that is an awesome achievement by U-Turn, and really makes this thing stand out for its price class. Good job guys
