Do I need a phonograph preamp?

You can get decent ones for around $150 or less. Two lower priced ones that I have seen measured well are the U-Turn Pluto 2 and the Schiit Mani.

Love it.

I drop shipped my unit to the audio science lord of audio science review, the unit measured above average and I personally think it sounds very good. For my money it is better than the phono in the emotiva ta-100. Good companion to my uturn turntable.

I also have recently purchased the U-turn Pluto 2 preamp and Ethos speakers. Everything is built by hand in Boston. Build quality and finish is high.

This is a really good Pre Amp make sure to do your homwork.

I want to say first and foremost please make sure your cartridge input capacitance is within its range when getting a pre-amp to get the best sound of of it. I have and Audio Technic VA530en which is known for being very bright so I had to make sure the input capacitance was in between 100pF and 200...

Which Pre-amp is better? i have a Technics SL-Q200

Phono Box DC. Pass on the Project with the logo on top. Pass on Fluance PA10 since the Art DJ Pre II is supposedly just as good for lower cost or you can get a better iFi Zen Air Phono or U-Turn Pluto 2 or Emotiva XPS-1 for the same cost as the Fluance.

* $99 U-Turn Pluto 2 is just as good as the Schitt Mani that costs $50 more. If you really must have a turntable with a built in phono stage preamp for some reason.

Your U-Turn Setup

U-Turn Orbit Custom w/Ortofon Red -> U-Turn Pluto 2 preamp -> Harman Kardon AVR 245 receiver -> Pioneer S-H452F-K speakers. Bought the preamp out of precaution as some AV & stereo receivers have a phono input and others don't.

Upgrading turntable for this space, which one should I get? Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO, Fluance RT85, or Sony PS-LX310BT? I know I will also need pre-amp and speakers. I want to mainly used with wired headphones. Thanks

In a heartbeat choose the pro-ject debut Carbon evo! Great upgrade paths for the table such as subplatter, platter, and cartridge to name a few :) a great pre-amp for this turntable would be the U-Turn Pluto 2 or Pro-Ject’s own MM Phono Box
