The PP400 is great for that. So this is the PP400.

Have a look at the TC-750 or TC-750LC or Art DJ Pre II. Cheapest I’d go is the Behringer PP400.

If you’re considering digitising your rarer finds, there’s the Art USB Phono Plus or TC-756USB.

If not, get a Behringer PP400. If the internal preamp is no-negotiable for some reason, this is a better turntable than the T1 Phono SB for $50 less.

Really for the money it is a fantastic unit. Nice sturdy metal enclosure and well spaced connectors, the ground uses a nice brass knob making it a snap to quickly hook up the ground wire from the turntable. The fidelity is somewhat flat. Pass on the older RT80 and RT81 that lack the new speed sensor. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. For the computer speakers you could start with a $21 Behringer PP400 that is around the same quality as the one in the AT turntable and upgrade later when you upgrade to better $300+ new or $150 used speakers or start with a better $65 Art DJ Pre II or $99 U-Turn Pluto 2 that will last through the speaker upgrade.

For example, there are turntables with built in phono preamps, amplifiers with built in phono preamps, and speakers with built in amplifiers (known as *powered* speakers). For $500 max and if you're okay with buying some parts used, I would probably recommend getting all the devices separately and going for a pair of Emotiva B1+ speakers for $250, an Aiyima A04 speaker amp for $50 (very basic, but solid for starting out), and a Behringer PP400 phono preamp for $15 (ditto).
