The Fosi X2 can easily compete at a level that's similar to the Schiit Mani, but offer a way more succulent experience. Fosi X2 opens up the music more, it's clearer and more shimmer in the highs, mids have a bit more hit which I prefer on vinyl. Bass is a little looser especially compared to the Mani, but the overall presentation is wider and more balanced. Overall it feels more natural and warm in all the right ways.

I was admittedly surprised at the size of the Fosi Audio Preamp. It's small, but sometimes great things come in small packages. That is definitely the case here. For a few days I used the preamp with the stock tubes that came with it while I waited for the upgraded tubes (Riverstone Audio GE JAN 565...

The reason being that at that price point they don't isolate the power supply and you get a lot of hum from the mains. So I would recommend getting a decent phono preamp, there are pretty cool ones for less than 100 USD like the Uturn Pluto 2 (100USD), the Schiit Mani phono stage (96 USD) and the Fosi X2 (75 USD). Note: the comment above with all the proper grounding care should still be considered with decent preamps.
