De Buyer Mineral B French Collection 5670P vs Scanpan Classic 12.5 Inch Fry Pan

De Buyer has a good reputation for the quality of cookware and the Mineral B line came highly recommended by members of an online foodie website, so I decided to give De Buyer a try. The rim of the pan is 3 mm, measuring from the outside rim edge to the inside edge of the rim. I did not use calipers to measure, just a standard plastic ruler marked in mm and cm. With normal use and the use of plastic, silicon, and metal utensils, the protective coating immediately chipped off! So disappointing! This pan is and has been completely useless now less than 4 years later. Everything I cook in here sticks terribly, clean up is awful, it lasted less time than our old teflon pans! I really want to believe in the ceramic coating and the ability to use a metal spatula, but this has not been my experience.

I am not a trained chef but do enjoy cooking. The bottom of this pan is not flat which causes all the cooking fat/oil to run to the edges away from the food. Maybe that is by design and preferred by some folks but it is a flaw IMHO.

gotta love when your egg or whatever slides to the side of the pan because the pan warped. I assume this is because the metal in the bottom of the pan is too thin.

This pan is sturdy and delivers as described. I purchased it as a gift for my college-age daughter who is in an apartment and she uses it mostly for fried eggs. She loves the no-stick quality and durability of the pan (no issues with seasoning it---follow the enclosed instructions) and plans to take it right through life with her. The handle is lovely

UPDATE: AUGUST 2012 Bought the pan in June of 2009. Have used it extensively on a daily basis and it has been a very good pan, BUT it is getting less and less non-stick as the days go by. I am looking around for another pan as this one is getting a bit long in the tooth and has noticeable scratches even tho I use only nylon or wood spatulas. I have had a good enough experience that I am considering another scan pan, but I see there are other options that have similar claims for less money
