 Yum! I recommend this iron, ESPECIALLY for the price! a definite bargain, in my opinion.

When I opened this up, I was surprised by how light it was, and wondered if it would be some piece of cheesy junk. firing it up for the first time, I made some waffles with fairly runny batter, and MAN! They came out GREAT! I had the temperature slider at maximum, and made sure to pull the waffles when the steam stopped coming out noticeably. Being light in weight seems to be a benefit, not a negative. Perhaps the cast aluminum waffle grid is thinner than my old waffle iron

 Perhaps they could have designed that interface better, but hey - it works, I understand now why it feels loose, but it's just fine, and so I no longer care about that feature. I reassembled the unit and made breakfast. Yum! I recommend this iron, ESPECIALLY for the price! a definite bargain, in my opinion.

Warm up: QUICK Cook time: QUICK Light functionality + doneness: ACCURATE Finding a proper amount of batter to go in to not make a mess will require a little learning so I can't deduct anything there. Like most small waffle makers, it takes some experimentation to figure out how much batter to pour (it will overflow messily if you pour too much) and which temperature setting works best for your recipe and preferences (I currently have it one step below highest). And it does help to periodically hit the grids with some cooking spray to keep waffles from sticking. The maker says they've weighted the lid to help expanding batter flow into all areas of the grid. I say more weight would help

I'd recommend a relatively high-oil batter, and even so you may find that waffles start to stick to the grid unless you hit it with a spray oil every few waffles. After years of use, that adhesion may become severe enough to start becoming a safety hazard; if you are ever temped to pry the machine open with a knife while it's still plugged in, or the cover starts pulling away from the grid, it's time to replace the machine before someone gets hurt

what the industry calls "traditional" waffles. It was a challenging finding a machine that didn't make those overwrought Belgian waffles! I find this machine very easy to use. You heat it up, pour in the batter, and it times the correct color waffle for you. It comes with directions and recipes and literally takes about 10 minutes from batter mixing to waffle eating

 I need to hold down the lid, as the waffle cooks, or it puffs up and doesn't get indentions. The plates do not detach for washing. I recommend the Cuisinart. It is priced right and works well for a newb waffle chef

Great waffle maker for beginners.

 I followed instructions and went with power setting 3 to make my waffles. There is a smell on the very first use, but it was stated in the instructions, so I ran the heat, opened the windows and let it cool after 10 minutes. Then I cleaned it with a wet towel and heated it up again. It didn't smell as bad as the first time

 Made the first waffle, followed instructions, waited for the indicator to turn green, it was perfectly formed, did bit stick. Gave it to my husband to do a taste test and he said it tasted fine, the smell did not transfer over to the waffles. So I made the first batch and we ate them, it was so good! And so easy！I tried putting a little oil on the grills as well and it worked too so you can do that if you are afraid of the waffles sticking. But otherwise it doesn't burn as long as you follow the indicator light - pour in the batter when it is green, it'll turn red and take it off only when it turns green again

 Depending on how your batter is - thick or watery, it also affects how it spreads in the waffle maker. A thinner batter will over flow a lot more easily, i usually make my batter thicker so I can pour more in without it spilling

 As others have commented, there was an unpleasant chemical smell the first few runs that eventually went away. Probably a thorough wipe down with a moist cloth and/or soft bristled brush would help here. Or, y'know, remove the plates and put them in the dishwasher first. ;P So

 Not only are the plates not removable, but as you can see from the picture, there is an open slot that the temperature knob slides through. Batter often spills onto the knob and into that slot, and there is really no way to clean it properly. Water needs to be involved here, and I have to be really careful not to spill any into that slot, even when that slot is what I need to clean. I'm sure there's a nasty crust of dried and old batter inside, and eventually I'm going to spill a combination of batter and water into there that is going to short the thing out
