 Nice rca jacks. The specs of the unit is documented, so I won’t talk about that.  I turned it on and left it on for a couple days before I gave it a listen. You can disable the sleep function

  Overall it’s a good preamp. But unless you want your music to sound like someone put a blanket on your speakers, don’t use a cartridge that you know has a warm sound.

 I then put on a cartridge with a known “hot” sound. Very sharp high’s. The Solo made it sound much smoother. As if it tamed those high frequencies

Didn't Improve Sound

Cambridge Audio AXC35 and Onkyo C7030.  Both are fast, quiet and great sounding.  The transport idea has no appeal for me as I'm not looking to be a DAC addict.

Marantz CD63 MK2 KI Signature. In mint condition, probably not used much before I bought it a few months ago. Works perfectly fine, I see no reason to buy something new. Plus, my dad's setup was all Marantz, so it gets bonus nostalgia points.

Any decent DVD player, even a cheap one plus a good DAC connected via coaxial can give excellent sound. I use a Schiit Modi 3 plus an Oppo DV-981HD.

The tray mechanism on CD players eventually wears out so why over invest? By going separates, you can replace or upgrade either when desired.

As a added bonus you can play videos and route the sound to your speakers in 2.0 sound; don't need a dedicated HT setup.

 The headphone amp on the Duo is also very good. It pushed the allures as loud as we would ever reasonably want to hear them. Both of these are as good as we have heard for their price. At $179, the Solo is an absolute steal

 For listening, we used a pair of Focal Allure headphones. The first thing that we noticed is that these phono preamps are super quiet, even with the volume turned all the way up. You basically hear silence when there's nothing playing. We would describe the sonic character of these new phono stages as warm and musical

 The front panel of the Solo is minimalistic, with only a power button and the Cambridge logo. The Duo, on the other hand, has the same power button and logo stamp, but also includes a button to select between a moving coil and a moving magnet cartridge, a large volume knob and a headphone jack. When you pop the cover, you'll see a surprisingly stuffed circuit board with great internal layout to keep the power supply separate from the very low-noise phono stage parts. Even to our critical eyes, the board layout and the quality of the parts used are top-notch

 I have tried three preamps so far. All have some degree of buzzing that is not acceptable. Cambridge Audio nor World Wide Stereo seem to care that they sold a product that is so bad.  I bought this last summer

 So, the PA10 was sample B and I don't know how you ranked it, but it was my least favourite. One thing I noticed with this preamp on every record I put it through is that it distorts the vocals and noticeably detracts from the music. However, if you hear anything of note in the samples, please share. I often learn as much from your ears as my own

 Fluence has released their first phono preamp, the $80 PA10. The wood grain is unique and the rumble filter is rare in this price range, but I'm not one to judge on looks or even specs, so we are going to put the new guy against the Art DJ Pre 2, which is my easy recommendation for those looking for a good, inexpensive preamp. If the Art wins here, the PA10 is forgettable. We will also put it up against the Shitmanny, which is my favourite preamp and my daily driver

The Fluance PA10 Phono Preamp: Where Doth it Lie?

I auditioned this preamp along with an Emotiva Xps-1 and the Ifi Zen Air model. This one has no punch to it. Compared to the other 2 it makes the music sound lifeless. Hi's are veiled, midrange is ok and bass is not punchy

Deducted one star. I purchased a Fluance TR83 Turntable along with a set of Fluance Ai61 powered speakers. The system is fabulous. Initially, I also purchased the Fluance PA10 Hi-Fi Phono Preamp

  FYI: The Fluance PA10 runs on a fixed gain setting of 38dB which should be more than fine for most if not all Moving Magnet cartridges in the $69-$299 price range.  The PA10 is an impressive performer that punches hard at its price range and even slightly above. If you’re starting out with a good quality yet reasonably priced entry-level turntable (ex. Audio Technica, Sony, U-Turn, Fluance, Pro-Ject, Rega, etc) and you want or need a very good quality phono preamplifier, then the Fluance PA10 phono preamp should be on your short list of considerations for turntables $600 or under

 In direct comparison to the Schiit Mani, the Fluance PA10 edged the Mani with regard to the Bass. The Fluance is better in that particular area for my preference. In other words, the Bass is more present, just a bit fuller, broader, but not overwhelming with any boomy-ness.  This is not to say that the Schiit Mani has no Bass, it certainly does while performing well in all areas, and it’s usually a great choice for most buyers

  I’m an audiophile which also means I’m not a sound engineer. I sit, relax, and enjoy listening to my music from all the formats I have. I keep my expectations fair & reasonable within the price point of any product I buy, after doing some easy research firstly, so I’m not unpleasantly surprised when it arrives. Also, audio reviews are very subjective as we all listen rather differently

 Overall the PA10 created an excellent immersive soundstage. with no audible hum of any kind which suggests that it’s well-insulated.  I listened to Jazz, Rock, Metal, Classical, New Wave, and Pop music with this preamp and the Fluance PA10 impressed me every time.  What you need to know and possible caveats :  It has a subsonic filter which is awesome at this price range, and works with Moving Magnet cartridges ONLY

 Otherwise, it'd just be have like seven albums for a 10-song EP. So in essence, really, it's to lower the size of the grooves. And then on a phono preamp, when you're developing it, the closer you can get to RIA equalization, then that in itself gets you the true sound the way that the artist intended it. How close did the PA-10 get to the RIA standard? 0

 And what this does is it just cuts those low end frequencies, anything subsonic, noise, and just gives you that extra little bit to say, hey, I'm going to maintain a clean playback. Do we just leave it on all the time or not? So recommended, obviously, you want the widest soundstage. So leave it inactive or out all the time and just use it when you're having those playback problems. So the PA-10, it applies a rear curve to the signal

 On the output side of the preamp, you've got 38 dB coming out for gain. The result of designing the PA-10 in this way is we get 38 dB out gain on the output side, as well as extremely low crosstalk because there's not just one chip doing everything. What is crosstalk? Crosstalk is when your left channel or right channel is bleeding into the upper opposite channel. Another thing that makes the PA-10 quite different is you'll notice it's a wood cabinet design, which is like, well, why would you design it in wood? You're going to get electromagnetic interference and things like that

 So basically your conditioning and your preemphasis to get ready for amplification on stage one is done on those separated single channel chips. And then on stage two, where you apply your rear curve and you do your amplification, that's done as well on two single channel IC chips. On the output side of the preamp, you've got 38 dB coming out for gain. The result of designing the PA-10 in this way is we get 38 dB out gain on the output side, as well as extremely low crosstalk because there's not just one chip doing everything
