The Brod & Taylor Pro is a robustly built, highly effective, good-looking, manual knife sharpening tool. We like that the unit quickly sharpens a variety of knife styles, including paring knives, serrated bread knives, and chef's knives. There are 3 sharpening tiers: course, hone, and polish. One can reshape the blade's edge as needed by changing the angle to meet one of these tiers as it passes through the sharpener. Moreover, the spring-loaded arms all but guarantee a consistent blade bevel. Lastly, the sharpener loses only half an inch of blade contact where the handle contacts the sharpening arms.   
While we're chuffed with how easily the Brod & Taylor sharpens dull knives, it does have some issues. Firstly, it doesn't sharpen scissors &mdash; this is the biggest knock against it. Also, despite the heavy base and rubber feet, the tool requires two hands to operate safely and effectively. There is also a bit of a learning process to effectively hit all three sharpening tiers correctly. Finally, the Brod & Taylor costs about as much as its electric counterparts. That said, this piece will be well worth the cost in an active kitchen where sharp knives are a must.

I'm sure that you could do better with stones, but I don't know how to do that, and honestly I don't have any use for a sharper blade than these will create. They take dull knives and turn them into deadly knives in about thirty seconds, so, kudos on all counts. It's easy to use, and does amazing things. According to my husband, "almost like magic." We like sharp knives, and have several sharpeners, but (also my husband), "We don't need anymore knife sharpeners around her, that's for sure. The others are being retired

 Had the tomato ready for testing. Impact of the sharpener was immediate. I could literally see a small nick in one of our paring knives and after working the stone it was gone and sliced the tomato like a hot knife through butter. Nice product packaging as well

 Also, make sure you dry everything well before storing again as the wooden holder will mildew (that was not a pleasant clean up). But overall, a good value for keeping your kitchen knives about as sharp as they can be.
