 Sometimes images turned out whitish like this one, i'm not a selfie aficionado, so i don't mind but for reference, take a look at the same picture. It'S much warmer and this one was taken with 2018's iphone 10s max on the spectrum of smartphone cameras. This isn't the best camera i've ever used, not even close, nor is it the best phone camera for its price range. But i think that's forgivable, because the camera isn't the main selling point of the zenfone 8

 I wasn't able to get an overall score for 3d slingshot unlimited, which didn't output an overall score, because the phone was apparently too powerful, but the zenfone 8 doesn't have everything. Of course, asus removed the microsd slot for expandable storage and last year's zenfone 7 lineup had expandable storage of up to two terabytes there's no support for wireless charging either. Now, based on my experience with the zenfone 8, i think asus achieved exactly what it set out to do, guided by its design, anthem of building a phone that was big in performance, but also compact in size. I mean it: crafted a durable phone with a stellar display, respectable battery life, dependable cameras and very powerful internals, and all that is crammed into a small and lightweight device

 In addition, the zenfone 8 has full quad hd plus resolution. That'S 2400 by 1080, pixels and 120hz display, which can be dialed back to 90hz or 60hz to preserve battery life. Most phones have refresh rates of 60 hertz, which means the screen refreshes 60 times in a second 120 hertz displays can look a lot smoother by comparison. That'S also the same speed seen across samsung's latest galaxy s21 lineup, including the 1200 galaxy s21 ultra, as well as xiaomi super lux mi, 11 ultra phone

 You can crank the system all the way up to high performance mode when juice is running low. The phone intelligently switched to ultra durable mode to preserve as much power as possible when i eventually ran out of juice. I used the bundled 33 watt charger to replenish the 4 000 milliamp hour battery took about an hour and 20 minutes to hit a full charge, but i needed just 30 minutes for the battery to get refilled more than halfway powering. The zenfone 8 is the top of the line: qualcomm snapdragon 888 chip along with 8 gigs or 16 gigs of ram in the most expensive model, with 256 gigs of storage

For best bang for the buck, Motorola X30 (another one without a global version yet, but maybe the time you buy) or Asus Zenfone 8 would be good options. But no SD card slot or headphone jacks (Asus Zenfone 8 Flip has a SD card slot though), and Motorola is notorious for poor software support. Other brands like Oneplus etc have some good phones, but probably stand out in none of the specific aspects you mentioned.

Since performance is most important I'll only list the ones with a flagship chip. And there is always the option to go to iphones, but this is pickanandroid subreddit so I only mention android phones.

For SD card slot and headphone jack your best option is Sony Xperia 5 III. However the screen is even taller than your Note 8 (21:9), and Sony's software support is still only on two OS updates. I think you can expect more security updates afterwards though, but 4 years might be a little of a stretch.

By the time you buy the new phone, Samsung S22 would be a natural choice, but the storage option likely wouldn't be ideal, no headphone jack or SD card slots. The screen would still be tall at 19.5\~20:9. You could get the Ultra version with the S Pen support, but it would probably be too much over-budget.

I just went from note 8 to an s21 and I thought I'd miss the screen real estate and pen but the slightly smaller phone is so much more convenient to use in bed or one handed.

Not sure on recommendations just wanted to give a thought since I just went through that. I bought mine used for 400 bucks.

* I prioritize performance above everything else. I am not up-to-date with the latest chips but I would want the best bang for the buck chip compared to performance. 
* Phone software is able to set a private DNS (I use adguard private DNS).
* Reasonable resistance to drops and scratches.
* Ideally, the screen is 16:9 or 16:10, something like Note3. I found Note8 tall screen somewhat uncomfortable. If only it was a bit shorter and wider.
* Camera is not important. It just exists.
* A headphone jack and an SD card slot (hard to find) or headphone jack and 256-512 internal storage. I can just live the dongle life though.
* A 1080p screen is good enough.
* If possible, I want a fingerprint scanner at an ergonomic location or a face scanner.
* I would be buying it Feb-Mar 2022 so I would want something that came out less than 4 months ago and with years ahead of support. I am planning to keep it a minimum of 4 years, ideally 5.
* I am gonna miss the pen though :P

Suggest a Note8 Successor for &lt;$800

In the US, Asus sells the phone with with a black matte shell. Monochromatic Zenfone branding is stacked vertically down the center of the back plate, and a tidy camera module sits in the upper left corner.&nbsp;

Depth of field is excellent and the foreground is crisp. Portrait mode works perfectly; there are no issues with object mapping, and the bokeh looks natural as opposed to a generic background blur. 

Benchmark scores match our experience. On Geekbench 5, a synthetic benchmark that evaluates raw computing power, the Zenfone 8 scored 1,121 single-core (SC) and 3,712 multi-core (MC). That edges ahead of the Galaxy S21&rsquo;s 1,001 SC score, and flies past its 3,046 MC score. The iPhone 12 mini surprises with 1,551 SC and 3,831 MC scores on the same test

 High Performance mode is the most energy-hungry of the available options, but it only improved benchmarks by about 15% across the board. You can easily turn it off or set up custom profiles in the Settings menu. 

Asus Zenfone 8 Review

 That being said, with the displays refresh set to auto, I was fairly satisfied with between five and a half to six and a half hours of screen on time while gaming or rotting my brain on TikTok for too long and watching a bunch of YouTube. But when I locked it to that 120 Hertz refresh, everything went south real fast, man, maybe four and a half hours, which isn't ideal. So when I head into the woods to do some exploring, I always fire up the Gaia GPS app, throw it in my dash mount and immediately plug in the car charger. Otherwise the phone drains faster than I can drive

 It's using Gorilla Glass Victus. And even though I haven't been using a screen protector, I've taken it out on a lot of dirt and rock-filled adventures, and it's still flawless. The glass is flat with slightly chunkier bezels. So as a result, I haven't had nearly as many false positive touches compared to displays with curved edges

 4K video looks good, detail and clarity is there, but I'd argue that the electronic image stabilization isn't as solid as a lot of other phones I've tested video stabilization with, like it's fine with bigger movements, but not so great with the smaller vibrations. The 12 megapixel front facing camera does well, skin tones look good and details are clear, but of course like most front facing cameras with lower dynamic range, highlights can get blown out pretty easily. So the Zenfone 8 is probably going to be my new main phone for a bit. The size is right, the performance and software experience is what I'm looking for, the display is awesome, the cameras are good enough, and even though the battery life could be better when the display is locked at 120Hz, not a refresh seems to give adequate battery savings, and I'm fine with that

Compact phones seem to be a little more niche these days with people demanding tablet sized phones, but if you're a member of the compact phone crew, the Asus Zenfone 8 might be exactly what you're looking for!

 It just feels wiry and not at all consistent with the bright material design of the rest of the operating system. And two is the front camera. And this is a bit weird because in the briefing document I received for this phone, Asus seemed very proud of the sensor they managed to use here. In practicality it's fine, but it's also not something you'd want to be bragging about

 Actually, let me show you something. Right, have a look at this. Completely unbranded, 100% generic, it was actually $50 from Wish.com, but the point is this is kind of what this is reminding me of

 And compared to using something like Google Chrome's default autofill software, one, it's faster. Because it works literally whichever device you're using. I could be autofilling something on Google Chrome on my PC, but then I could pick up an iPhone, open a Safari browser, and still have the same details ready to go. And two, it is safer

 Like you can get nice shots in good lighting, but if you try portrait mode it will blow out the background. In low light it gets particularly grainy and because the angle is tight, when you're taking video on this, you almost have to kind of like stretch your hands out a little bit further than feels comfortable just to accommodate the face. So overall this camera system is not incredible, but it is good. And if you have a look at this tally we've been keeping, it should be pretty clear why this phone is so special

Zenfone 8 - The most boring INCREDIBLE phone ever.

. It feels really good in the hand and the curve. The curve back here is just kind of perfect for sitting in your hand, like that.

This phone makes my hands look BIG! - ASUS Zenfone 8

 I even left Strava running for 20 hours by accident, and the battery still had some life in it the next morning. The ZenFone 8 supports 30W wired charging with the included power adapter, which takes an empty battery to 100 percent in a bit more than an hour. Wireless charging isn’t supported, which makes the ZenFone 8 a bit of an outlier in the flagship class.

The display’s 20:9 aspect ratio was carefully considered by Asus. The company says it settled on this slightly narrower format so the phone would fit more easily into a pocket, and it does. I can’t get it all the way into a back jeans pocket, but it mostly fits. More importantly, it fits well inside a jacket pocket and doesn’t feel like it’s going to flop out if I sit down on the floor to tie my shoes

The ultrawide camera also turns in good performance. Asus calls it a “flagship” grade sensor, and while that might have been true in 2018, it’s at least a step up from the smaller, cheaper sensors often found in ultrawide cameras. Likewise, the front-facing 12-megapixel camera does fine. Beauty mode is turned off by default when you switch to the selfie camera, and thank goodness for that
