It also has fantastic low input lag, ensuring your actions are in-sync with the action on-screen.

It has very good peak brightness with SDR content and good reflection handling, so glare isn't an issue in bright rooms, and the image remains accurate when viewed from the side, so it's great for sharing the screen with someone else. It supports HDR, and although it has a low contrast ratio, bright highlights in games stand out well. Sadly, it's not a good choice for a dark room, as blacks look gray and patchy, and the local dimming feature is bad. It also lacks a backlight strobing feature, which is a bit surprising. Overall, it's a great monitor for almost any usage.

You can find anything from basic 1080p screens to high 4k resolutions, and you can also find monitors with 60Hz refresh rates or with stunning 240Hz refresh rates. 27 inch monitors are good if you want more screen space than a 24 or 25 inch display, and you find 32 inch screens are too big.

There are 27 inch models for different types of gamers. The benefit of getting the 1440p resolution is that it gives crisp images and sharp detail while gaming and isn't too taxing on your graphics card. This monitor also offers a few NVIDIA proprietary features like the Reflex Latency Analyzer, which measures the latency of your entire setup. While you don't get the same dark room performance as the AW3423DW, it's still a good choice to use with a few lights around as it gets bright and has good reflection handling, so visibility isn't a problem in a well-lit room.

If you want to save some money and still want a high-end monitor with a ton of features, then something in the upper mid-range category like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM is a good choice. It's different from the Dell Alienware AW3423DW because it has a 2560x1440 resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so you get a smaller screen, and it also doesn't have the same remarkable picture quality, but that's the trade-off you need to make for something cheaper. However, the ASUS has a much higher 240Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for high-frame-rate gaming if your graphics card supports a 1440p signal up to that frame rate.

Like the Dell, it has native G-SYNC support, and there are a few extra features you can take advantage of with an NVIDIA graphics card. It has NVIDIA's Reflex Latency Analyzer, which helps measure the latency of your entire setup so you can identify which sources cause the most delay. The input lag of the monitor itself is very low, and you won't feel any delay with it. The response time is also excellent across its entire refresh rate range, resulting in smooth motion with fast-moving objects.

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card and want to take full advantage of it with the native G-SYNC support, consider a monitor like the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM. Zero Compromise - 1440p/240Hz Asus PG279QM Review

 Now look, there's always going to be some compromise when choosing a gaming monitor.

 For example, do you go with a 1080p 240Hz monitor to get the best competitive advantage

 in first person shooters or do you go with a slower but higher resolution 1440p or 4k panel?

 Maybe you want the best experience in those beautiful single player games.

 Well there is a third option and that's basically just to spend a bunch of money and get this.

 This is the ASUS PG279QM, it's a 27 inch 1440p 240Hz IPS gaming monitor.

 And you know, if you have a diverse game library, you play a bunch of different games

 and you kind of want that balance of high resolution but still high frame rate.

 This is about as close to a zero compromise gaming experience as I think you can get right now.

 Especially if you are into first person shooters, this thing is blazingly quick.

 I mean I can't wait to show you the UFO motion test for this one

 because I do think that this might actually be the fastest IPS monitor

 that I've tested when it comes to response time and motion performance.

 So on the exterior there's not a whole lot of surprises here, it's your typical looking

 ROG branded gaming monitor that looks like it came straight out of an alien spaceship.

 Most of the construction here is plastic but again we do see that really heavy duty

 metal tripod stand which thankfully doesn't extend forward too much,

 it doesn't go in front of the display but it does extend outwards.

 So that might bother some people when it comes to mouse pad positioning.

 Seeing as this is a larger 27 inch display though,

 you will be positioning the monitor a little bit further away from you

 Thankfully though ASUS really know what they're doing when it comes to adjustability.

 You've got a ton of adjustment in terms of height, pivot, swivel and tilt.

 Also I will mention the VESA mounting because that is how I've been using this monitor for testing.

 It's a little bit tricky, the VESA 100x100 mounting threads are hidden behind these

 two plastic covers that can be carefully removed with a flat head screwdriver

 and then you should be pretty much good to go with any monitor arm.

 So 1440p 240Hz, that spec is really interesting and depending on what monitor you're currently

 using you might look at that in a different way.

 Personally as a user of a 1080p 240Hz monitor for first person shooters,

 to me it's basically like getting a 78% increase in pixel count
