Alienware AW3418DW vs Asus ROG Swift PG279QM

Some takeways about the monitor: black levels are excellent and colors are great. The HDR is passable. However, the response time on this monitor is DEFINITELY noticeably slower than a comparable IPS and EXTREMELY slower than a fast 240hz TN panel. To replace my 34" UW I was looking at a Samsung G9 49" on sale for $1000. The G9 hands down would have fixed the real estate issue I was having and also provide an insanely fast refresh rate at 240Hz, but would have literally taken every inch width wise of my 48" desk and while QLED is good it simply can't compare to the contrast ratio of OLED. The G9 would have the plus of having an actually stand and it having a curvature, which is probably one of the bigger downsides of the C1. In the end I decided to go C1 since at $1100 on sale it actually would fit slightly better on my desk but also give me a massive jump in contrast

Based in Hong Kong, so also relatively easy to pick here up. Thinking whether this is the right monitor for my brother in law. I do imagine he will upgrade his computer, but he's a fairly casual PC gamer so something like this may well be a very good budget option. Personally I have the AW3418DW and think that for single monitor users (especially here in HK given the size of our apartments) that a single ultra-wide 34 is a size, my wife loved it when she was WFH

She's a big boy for a 32", so if you're trying to fit it into a spot & not onto a desk, check the dimensions twice.

When I changed the refresh rate from 120 Hz to 100 Hz, everything began displaying clearly, and looked great. However, games still look fine using 120 Hz.
