 I did learn that you really do need a pretty clear shot of the open sky for best signal strength. But that is true no matter which device you use. I am very happy with the Bivy Stick. Even if money was no object, I still think I would buy the Bivy Stick over the Garmin inReach

There is a learning curve.  Practice makes perfect!

 So i can click on message and then i can select who i want to to send a message to and it you can sync with your phone or your your contacts in your smartphone and you can pick from phone numbers to emails. I'M just going to pick an email because it shows up right here at the top and then down here you can, then you hit that button or the at the bottom, and it has the letters just like you would message or text somebody on your on your Cell phone, so let's just make do a test here, so i typed it in it's really fast and once i'm done, i can hit send there's a send button right here at the bottom, and i've already sent several messages to myself tested in some other videos. In the past, so right here it says uh just what i just sent test from acr bivi stick and i sent it to an email. So, let's see i'm gon na switch over to my email, real, quick and see if it actually went to me already and being that i actually right here, i'm in cell service, so it's using satellite messenger, but my my phone's in cell service

 I would put the garmin inreach mini as a 4.5 out of five, and then i would put this just right behind it. At four out of five, but i really like it a lot: it's it's not my favorite, but boy, it's not too far from it. It'S a great device

 There'S there's several things. You can turn on or off the waypoints. You can select kind of map. You want the middle button here, like zooms in on your location, so you can see where i'm at after the filtered by you can see different things here, there's um some some waypoints

 It'S really handy, there's some things here at the top from sos check in and it's kind of hard to see with the sun. In my face, there's new adventures, offline maps, waypoints weather, there's several things here in the middle and then down at the bottom. There'S home maps it says, stick and messages so everything's really easy to get to and again i'll show some screenshots of all this. The the first thing i always do you know, take a look at the maps of course, so right down here at the bottom, you click on maps and several things show up here shows your location up at the top right here

 This is a protected case here, a hard covering to prevent any accidental presses of the sos button, so you have to flip it up in order to press it, and that exposes the sos button. Looking at the left side, you do have your toggle switch for up or down arrows, which you can go through the selection menu and then right under that you have a covering that covers the charging port. Now, we'll get into that in a little bit more detail, because the charging ports are slightly different, the power button is located on the top and you do have your iridium antenna on the top. You also have these little things here, these little holes, so you can put like a toggle switch or something like that on the back

 You click on that and then you have track back and it would load your most recent course and you can zoom in by toggling on the buttons and you would just click. Ok and go, and it would actually take you back to your original starting position so using your breadcrumbs that it left behind now you can do something similar with the mini, but what it does is you have to manually, go in and set the breadcrumbs for it To leave and then that will also use a bit more battery in the process, so not as efficient as the mini 2 is in that regard, another cool thing with the mini 2. Is you have the access to get your weather on the device as well? So you can click on weather and it tells you a forecast based on your location there and, as you click it, you can get more details as well. You can update

 But the having the garmin explorer app just really makes the the user interface a whole lot more of a friendly experience uh when you're using your phone paired with the mini 2.. Another cool thing about the mini 2 is there's a feature called trackback, and this is something where it actually leaves a breadcrumb by behind you as you're walking, and does this automatically without draining any extra battery life, so pretty cool at that and how you would access That is, you would click on the ok menu here. You then scroll down to navigate

 You have a built-in digital compass, so if you like reading maps and following that and don't want the weight of an extra compass, you can use your garmin inreach and how you do that you just scroll down to your navigate. You click on that and then you have your digital compass that comes up and you can turn it and it shows you where you are and all that so pretty cool that you have that additional feature there, where you do not have that with the original mini. Now one of the coolest updates that we have with the new mini 2 is the ability for it to connect to a garmin watch. So i have the finnex 6 here and i can scroll down and, as you go down to the menus, it's actually going to create an inreach app and from there

 The other thing on this unit, that's different to the older one. It will actually um lock on to not just gps satellites, to give your position on the ground, but also um the galileo system and the qzss. That'S giving you the advantage that there's more satellites to look for. So, if you have got not agree as good of you as the sky and you've got a better chance of getting a quicker satellite lock and a more accurate lock for your position on the ground

You pay various subscription levels, so this subscription based more information on our frequently asked questions on the subscriptions. So when you subscribe and pay for package, friends and family using satellites can track where you are and see you moving across a map, you can also send shortcut messages, letting friends and family know everything's, okay, but you're not necessarily needing help and also you can pair It with an app on the phone which i'm going to talk about in more detail to type um individual messages like you would type a text message, but you're actually using the iridium satellites that the unit has to send those messages. So a lot of the features that we saw on the original um in reach itself, so i'm just going to move the carabiner out the way on the usb cable

 Um we've mentioned about the navigational side of things and being able to follow potentially a course, and what they've also done is with this new unit um, you can do a track back so like a breadcrumb trail and follow your footsteps of where you've been. You could do that on the old unit, but you had to start the tracking now, sometimes you find scenarios where you may turn the unit on. So it's ready if you needed to use the sos button, but you're not actually started the tracking. So if you hadn't started the tracking you weren't able to do a track back little emergency feature, i would i would call it our safety feature on the new inreach mini 2 is: whenever you turn the unit on, it will automatically start recording every 10 minutes
