But there are plenty of drawbacks that give me pause. Update: I ended up returning this laptop as the freezeups were happening more, even after I finished doing all of the windows/driver updates. Perhaps those will be fixed in future firmware patches, but I'd rather get a computer that functions "correctly" from day one. It's weird because as I mentioned, overall performance of this laptop is very impressive and far outshines my old 2 core macbook pro, but I don't have the same freezeups on the mac (running windows) - I imagine that this has something to do with lack of AMD drivers or something

Unfortunately, the latter seems to be an artificial restriction imposed by the manufacturer, especially considering that the Intel-equipped T490 is allowed to consume more energy. Nevertheless, the T495’s quad-core remains powerful and fast enough, especially for an office laptop.Great display, long battery life, and good performance. Given its lower price, the ThinkPad T495 is a great alternative to the Intel-equipped ThinkPad T490

Battery Life

Great laptop for students on a budget!

The charger plug doesn’t fit nicely into the computer. I have to push it in harder than I would like to get it to charge, and I always worry that it’s going to break. However, the battery life is so great that I’ve only had to charge it once in the past three days. I’ll update later when I’ve spent more time with it

Great performance for windows, almost seamless with linux

Lenovo's settings in windows had a battery health setting where I could set it to charge up to 80% and not start charging till it hits 60%. Glad to say these settings seem to be held in hardware, as linux never charges past 80% either. Battery is still like new a year later despite being plugged in nearly 24/7. Note the graphics are strong in this, despite not having an actual gpu
