The display on this laptop is very straightforward. It&rsquo;s an IPS panel with a full HD (1,920-by-1,080-pixel) native resolution.  Screen resolution is great and videos playing look like a TV screen. Small, obivously, but compact, lightweight and a fast machine. Would recommend!

 Again, not even as loud as my old laptop so it doesn't bother me at all.  WEIGHT: This is so lightweight! My old one was a bit heavy and clunky, so I appreciate the fact this is so light. The downside of that is that the casing does feel cheap. Like it might not survive getting dropped on the carpet

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this. Personally I think that they slowly started to go down hill after Lenovo started to make them. Out of the older models I know of I think I would have to say the X61 is the best newest one (if that makes sense). It came out in 2007, it's still got that old school aesthetic and build quality, it doesn't have a wide screen, it's got a screen latch and there's no stupid touch pad to get in the way!  
I've never actually owned one but I've had a look at one in person and I think it was a lot better than the x220 / x230 that everyone seems to love so much (I have an x230.) I also own a t480 and have owned an A31 and a T42. I think that the older Thinkpads definitely had something special about them that the new ones lack. To be clear I would still pick a Thinkpad over most other laptops, but I do think it's a shame that they don't seem to be what they once were.

  
On a side notes does anyone know where to get one? An X60 or X61 that is? There don't seem to be any on Ebay. I think it would be really cool to try and put a RockPro64 or something like that inside of one.

What was the last truly great Thinkpad?

I've had good luck with both Dell Latitude and Lenovo ThinkPad in that price range. Depending on where you are, Latitude might be slightly better value for money, since used ThinkPads are more talked about and popular.

The most important thing to me is compatibility with Linux.  It seems like a lot of laptops nowadays have issues with running Linux (particularly with suspending and such), so the most important thing to me is that the hardware will be able to work with Linux out of the box/with minor bios tweaks.

* Size: &lt;= 14 inches is preferable
   * Size is not a major factor, as long as I can fit it in a backpack
